Stork Theory

A Sumi-e style brush painting I created illustrating Stork Theory. Other than the stork's folkloric role as a bringer of babies and harbinger of luck and prosperity, Stork Theory is often used as an example to demonstrate how ridiculous it is to "Teach the Controversy."… Continue

I need more sleep!

It seems the older I get the lighter the sleeper I become. There was a time that you could shine a bright light in my eyes and blast music in my ears and I would not awake.

After the birth of each of my children I would instantly wake to the sounds of them crying or even moving around in their beds but I could sleep through anything else. Eventually I'm pretty sure I slept through some tears.

My last duty station in the Army our housing was near a tank range and…

Oh the horrors of atheism!

This entry was a response to recent email I received from a theist who argued that individuals following “atheistic philosophies were responsible for more deaths than any other group in human history”. Obviously he was referring to the millions who have…

The Better Question(s) to Ask...

It is said that, "The truth is always simple, but never easy." In this respect, I understand how theists, especially Christians, have trouble letting go of a belief system that has (in most cases) permanently scarred the individual, in question and it can be difficult to let go of your only perceived form of comfort, fellowship and acceptance. However, the question you must ask yourself is, "Are my firmly… Continue

"Oh, you're just trying to be different."

Don't expect me to believe you don't believe in God like the rest of us. You just have some need to be different.

I've known you all your life. You were never as athletic or as smart or as popular as the other kids, so instead of finding something to do where you'd be as good as them, you had to go looking for some way to be better than them, something that they never heard of and didn't care about. This "atheism" thing is just your way of resolving your inferiority…

Washington (CNN) -- Democratic congressional leaders Wednesday demanded Republicans join them in condemning a spate of threats and vandalism that has followed Sunday's vote on a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health care system.

New Beginning

Being pressed for time, I cannot write too much on my first entry. However, I will say that I'm tired of feeling oppressed concerning my thoughts and beliefs (or lack thereof) in any deity. Like my friend TheIrishFrog, I was raised in a very religious family, regularly attending church. As time passed on and I began to explore other possibilities for myself, I realized that there are many possible gods to believe in - I set forth on my own adventure to learn about these other possible gods,… Continue

Need a bit of help

I'm writing a paper on how conservatism in religion brings penalties in legislation and has a negative impact on society.

I'd LOVE some support from all of you. I know that somebody's going to make a great point that I might have missed.

Rough sketch of supporting ideas:

1. God is not moral by modern standards (Bible primary reference)

2. The penalties that conservative religious values have on society (oppressive psychological bonds that limit reasoning skills,… Continue

Proving That God Exists

I know I am known for being a vocal atheist, but the other night I realized the proof for God that I just can’t deny. Now I know that God really does exist. So today I will show you this proof and see if anyone can disprove it.

Posting any more will give away the surprise.

Atheist aren't alone in Athens, OH - (Letter to the Athens News)

For too long, the Atheist community has been almost

non-existent within southeastern Ohio, with the exception of student

organizations, such as the O.U. Skeptic's Society. Too many of us are

sitting in our homes, fearful of the renunciation and rejection we may

face, should we ever show our true beliefs to the people around us,

within our own communities. The persecution of non-believers is a

process that is done so subtly and passively, that rarely does… Continue

Sunshine Coast Atheists Run Amok at Melbourne Atheist Convention!

Thanks to Nexus members Karen and Luke for this great video on our local group's experience at the Global Atheist Convention.

Highlights - PZ Myers getting up close and personal with two of our gorgeous Sunshine Coast heathenettes, and Warren Bonett from Embiggen Books getting something of a man-crush on AC Grayling (after Grayling offered to do a book signing at Warren's…

The BIG "F" You!

To the People in My Life:

able, but eager to see where my "true friends" stand on the subject of

my life. For some time, this has been building inside of me and I have

Poll asks if President Obama maybe the anti-Christ

While it is no revelation that America is politically polarized, the role that religion plays in this polarization is something of note. Recently, Harris Interactive decided to measure people’s beliefs about our current President. One of the things they found was that fourteen percent of all Americans believe that President Barack Obama maybe the Anti-Christ as described in the Biblical book of Revelations.…

The Massive Boy Scout Sexual Abuse Cover-up and the Silent Acceptance Through Participation

This week it came to light that the Boy Scouts of America have kept “Perversion Files”; thousands of files that outlined sexual abuse in the BSA and how they systematically covered it up. As the BSA propagated acts of prejudice against nearly a quarter of the country’s population by banning…

Profiles in Wishy Washy Beliefs: Deepak Chopra

Yesterday, I watched the ABC Nightline debate between Sam Harris and Deepak Chopra featuring Michael Shermer and some crazy lady. The subject of the debate was whether or not God has a future. In reality, the real debate was whether or not Deepak Chopra is trying to be the next L. Ron Hubbard. (Read the rest of this Article)
