Growing up my mom was in the Air Force as a chapel manager so I was exposed to all major denominations. We started out playing for the baptist team, then moved over to the protestant camp, back to baptist team, and finally landed on planet catholic. I'm still not sure which one I despised the most but if I had to pick one it would be planet catholic. I still cringe thinking back on the nightly forced ritual of saying the rosary, not every other night but every night. As terrible as it… Continue

ALARM, ALARM, THE ENDMEME THREATENS ALL LIFE

This is the sequel to “Why I Became a Militant Non-Believer” on this blog.

Humanity is in a race with itself and we're running out of time. The planet is in dire straights. Nature has given mankind the power of reason, and in return, like Frankenstein’s monster, humans destroy her with the power of science. The waste of billions of years of evolution is unbearable to contemplate.

It’s the arrogance and stupidity that’s so hard to take. Instead of blessing nature with joy… Continue

Crazy for God

I often judge a book by how much it makes me think and reflect. Frank Schaeffer's, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up as One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right, and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back - certainly passed that test. The outdoors, mountains, adventures with firecrackers, hunting, hiking and, of course religion, all were a big part of my childhood and relationship with my father as it was for Frank. Some other similarities struck me as well. As the oldest, my mother… Continue

Dogma Free America

Had a great conversation with Rich Orman on his podcast, Dogma Free America. You can listen to it through iTunes of his website http://www.dogmafreeamerica.com/ It will be on line around April 8.

His is one of the three or four free thought podcasts I listen to every week. I have listened to his podcast for a couple of years now and enjoy its "wider angle" view of the issues we all are concerned about on the planet. What is different is their more international view of religion's… Continue

Awesome. Pro-atheist Family Guy episode

Perfect timing, I was just commenting to a few people today how Atheists still top the polls as America's most mistrusted group then THIS: http://www.hulu.com/watch/64995/family-guy-not-all-dogs-go-to-heaven

was on today. Check it out on Hulu, it was great.

So, I'm making a new podcast about The Ten Questions

...but they may not be exactly the Ten Questions you all have seen or heard. I took these Ten Burning Questions every intelligent Atheist must answer yadda yadda from Lifeway: Biblical Solutions for Life. Yeah, I know, it sounds like Landmark Education or that scam thing from this week's Mentalist.

I don't really know what it is: here, let me check...

...looks like… Continue

Spanking

I was raised this way and I promise you it is abuse even though most of the parents who spank do it "with love". A lot of people who are raised being spanked raise their own children this way as well and think it's a perfect method but for a more sensitive child like myself it is traumatic. I remember being terrified and having panic attacks and hyperventilating. I felt terrible even when my siblings were spanked and would sometimes cry when I heard them screaming in the other room. Even now my… Continue

Don't tell your kids they have genitals and maybe they won't figure it out.

A church near where I live is picking up on the trend and preaching about sex. The church sign reads something like "Sex God's Way". (Don't remember exact wording.)

Where do I start? The beginning? I would say by the age of six and increasingly as I grew I was taught about modesty. To cover my knees, never wear anything tight, and feel extremely awkward in a bathing suit. I was not allowed to wear shorts or pants and by the time I reached puberty I felt exposed in a sleeveless shirt. Why?… Continue

Sexual perversions

There are still many people in the world who for religious or superstitious reasons maintain what we may call "strict sexual morals", and who consider "sinful" many practices to which they attach a label of "perversion". This idea still predominated with a spurious scientific appearance until the 70's of the past century, and it was so much so that commonly accepted sexual practices coincided almost perfectly with old religious commandments.

Things have changed in most advanced… Continue
