People pressing senator during town hall for Universal healthcare.

I absolutely love this. In Town Halls across the USA, people have been stepping it up.

In Las Vegas during a town hall, Senator

Catherine Cortez Masto was getting pressed about Universal healthcare. After skating around it a few times, people were not satisfied with her answer.

Dear Mr. President: Regarding Climate Change...

Rigorous science is critical to my administration's efforts to achieve the twin goals of economic growth and environmental protection.  My administration is committed to advancing scientific research that leads to a better understanding of our environment and of environmental risks. As we do so, we should remember that rigorous science depends not on ideology, but on a spirit of honest inquiry and robust debate.

-- President Donald Trump, commenting on the March for Science…

Happiness. Positivity. Avoiding Negativity. Social Media. News.

Over and over again in life, things happen.  Things that don't make us happy today, and won't make us happy tomorrow, or probably, ever.  Hearing about those things, or reading about the repeatedly, won't make us happy, today or tomorrow, or the next day.

Depression is contagious. …

Revealing my "Raison Detre"

Srikanta Swamy (SS): What do you say to someone who is struggling with the pain of withdrawal symptoms of leaving his religion and coming to the realization that this is all there is and that there are no personal Gods - Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva, speaking in the context of our Hinduism?

Me: Deal with it. It's a fact of life. Look at the bright side. You no longer have to worry about eternal punishment. Your life is now your own, not governed by external forces except for those imposed…

The Politics of Distraction

Variations on the following have just been sent to the feedback sites for CBS, NBC, and ABC News:

I may be mistaken regarding your current journalistic focus, but a bunch of ineffectual cruise missiles in Syria, then one large bomb goes BOOM in Afghanistan and any attention the media may be paying to the issue of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and alleged complicity on the part of Donald Trump's campaign seems to have been distracted.  Insofar as I'm…

Prayers -The Pros & Cons (Through the eyes of a Secular Humanist)

WHY PRAYER "WORKS"

Prayer is a unique combination of meditation, wishful thinking, simple greed, conscience-clearing and a desire for peace of mind. It’s all rolled into one! And it’s all quite selfish when you examine it.

Since most people begin prayer with their eyes closed and their hands clasped or at least at rest, you’re off to a good start in the area of relaxation. That’s really all meditation is anyway, which is why it works for so many people.…

O Canada Lyrics exclude many Canadians including atheists. These New Words Fix That.

With Canada's 150th anniversary just around the corner (July 1) our national song should be one that everyone can sing with gusto (being on key not required). Unfortunately, the official words in both official languages exclude many Canadians (National Anthems Act, 1980)

Immigrants are excluded in both English and French -  "home and native land," et "terre de nos aieux."

Women will be included if the Senate approves "in all of us…

Why even Smart People Believe Religious Claims

Of course it is true that some highly educated people believe religious claims. Why is that?

Permit me to offer some explanations.

FIRST, smart persons are very good at defending ideas that they believe for non-smart reasons. They want to believe something, say for emotional reasons, and they then become quite adept at defending those beliefs after the fact, since they are smart! But it is arrogant of those with no credentials in the sciences, and no experience in the field or…

Me & god(s) are both atheists !!!

Faith is belief in illusory things that are not based in fact. Since gods know everything, they can't have faith. So gods are atheists.

Because they are already the highest power, they don't believe in a higher power. So they are atheists because atheists do not believe in higher powers.

Specific gods

* Jesus ( Historians/Archaeologists say he didn't exist) did not believe in the god of Judaism or the Roman gods. So he was an…
