50 Lose Sight Seeking Virgin Miracle

When I was a very young child in rural Texas, a strange annual event would happen each summer during the hottest time of the year. A large white tent would be set up in a park near my grandparent’s church, and lots of little metal chairs would be set up around a small raised platform with a microphone. For several nights in a row my grandparents would take me to this event they called a “tent revival” and we would listen to a rather portly sweaty man tell us colorful stories from the New… Continue

More Christian Family Values

The godtards are fond of claiming that nonheterosexuals adopting children is bad for the kids.

As bad as this, I wonder?

An evangelical preacher killed his wife several years ago and stuffed her body in a freezer after she caught him abusing their daughter, according to police and court documents.
Anthony Hopkins murdered his wife in 2004 after she caught him fucking… Continue

I'm speechless...

Assailed by boredom I, perhaps incautiously, decided to have a look at some creationist websites to have a laugh. I do it from time to time, to catch up with the new silly arguments they manage to come up with - if they even do. This is a little something I found on www.creationism.org and I thought I'd share with the world. Also, it was obviously placed in a page titled "Evolution" .…

Believers Anonymous - A place for recovering believers from the tyranny of organized religion

Hey everyone!

So, as you may recall, I created a 12 step program for people recovering from organized religion.

Well, I found out that believersanonymous.com was available and I got it!

The question is, what would you, my target audience, be interested in? I certainly don't want to take anything away from Atheist Nexus, my new favorite place… Continue

Replace Religion?

It's a common meme: If you are an Atheist, and you support science, you are frequently accused of trying to replace religion with science. A recent example is here: What's wrong with science as religion? The zen answer to that question, of course, is mu. What exactly is wrong with the question? Few if any Atheists have actually advocated such a thing. What… Continue

Food allergies... wtf?!?

I've had bad allergies as long as I can remember. For the last few years, they seemed to do okay with medications. Well, I had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome about a dozen years ago. Last year, I started having heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and some other symptoms.

A stress test came out fine. I was reading up on something recently and found that palpitations can be caused by a food allergy. Apparently, most of my other whacky health symptoms I've had for the… Continue

Borderline Divinity

Just for fun, here are the diagnostic criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder (taken from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association). I've underlined the appropriate criteria and proof-texted corresponding verses to "document" that God has a problem and should seek help:

A pervasive pattern of… Continue

How dare I stare into the eyes of the universe?

How dare I stare into the eyes of the universe when the infinite darkness between the stars can swallow me whole in just one glance and when reflecting on time my consciousness is raised yet suffocated at the thought that I exist in just a fraction of a speck of time’s infiniteness? As insignificant as I may feel, I am the universe, at least a scrap of it, and if I thought the universe were conscious, I would criticize it for being cruel to allow me to live, love, be aware, and become attached… Continue

Atheist Library

Here's a short list of books I put together that I think represent the case for atheism very well.

Any atheist that is serious about his/her lack of faith should read at least some of these books. They aren't light reading though. But I've found that as I read these, I tended to read them faster and faster as they are such damn good books.

Being an atheist is easy but being informed about it and being able to defend it well are important things. We can learn a lot from these… Continue

Passed the T.A. Exam!

So I have been out of work for 3 weeks now. It has been tough finding work, but I finally took the Transportation Authority test and PASSED! Hard work but I did it!

Now all I have to do is get fingerprinted, take a pee test, offer my first bornand do the paid safety/training and I will be on the streets picking up drunks and tourists... same thing.

It seems like it is taking forever to get this job, all the paperwork, the hoops, the tests... I am surprised I… Continue

If you Must Have an Official Religion

...it should probably be Buddhism.

In the face of right-wing fungelical squeaking about transgendered individuals and the bathrooms they should or should not be permitted to use, a school in Thailand has actually built a separate WC for its transgendered students.

What I sit in awe of is not the fact that the…

Cheesus found!!

You lucky folks from Missouri, the power of Cheesus is in your state! Just look at him

This has finally proven that some folks began to put him in the shroud before he was taken off the cross. They didn't have all day ya' know? His head is very small, which is not at all surprising, but he apparently rocked out a ponytail years before it was… Continue

Just a take on things...

I was thinking of a thought experiment to try and teach my child when she comes of age about the very basics of religion and atheism and why I stand where I do. This is what came to me as I lay trying to fall asleep last night.

Take two cups, one clear and one opaque, fill the clear one up with stones, beads, etc.. or a wide range of colors, have the opaque cup upside-down on a table. Tell the person that under this cup there may or may not be a stone under the cup and then ask them… Continue

Gnothi seauton

I write. I intend it as a broad statement, just as much as 'aerobic organisms require oxygen.' It would, in fact, be more correct to say that writing has come to be a prerequisite for my own well-being, as I have painfully found out in circumstances that made it impossible for me to write anything creative for long periods of time. Ah, daily routine, how I loathe thee!

I write for many reasons, probably for more than I can consciously put my fingers on. Most times, as I sit down in… Continue

Intolerance towards Intolerance

Is he who is intolerant towards intolerance any more justified to be intolerant then the intolerance he is being intolerant towards? Does his intolerance towards intolerance not make him a hypocrite?

A Laying on of the Hands

So, I was half-watching Dan Abrams's Verdict! last night and he did a bit about this case.

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Supreme Court on Friday threw out a jury award over injuries a 17-year-old girl suffered in an exorcism conducted by members of her old church, ruling that the case unconstitutionally entangled the court in religious matters.

First off....oh, gee, look...it's Texas, home of Joe Horn. Go figure.

Anyway. Here's the deal:

Laura… Continue

Can Christians tolerate not knowing?

Babs asked a question in Yahoo! Answers that I normally would have ignored, but for some reason, her terminology provoked a response out of me. Here is her question:

Don't believe in God? How do YOU explain the world's existence?

I'm serious! Don't try to tell me I'm stupid for believing in God or "God isn't real" or try to convince of a particular religion. Just tell me how you would…
