Would ET Believe?

When ET finally arrives, he'll carry the fruits of an advanced civilization with him. What will he think of our primitive superstitions? How should we approach first contact with him? I've wrestled with this question in writing Dead Astronauts. Faced with first contact, the protagonists disagree. Air Force Colonel and true believer Rex Stone debates the issue with NASA scientist and nonbeliever Dawn Thomas. Here's how they… Continue

This is America!

I don't know the ngenral opinion on the ground zero "mosque" here because I haven't been as active as I should be but I know at least 1 (thunderfoo at youtube) atheist has used the argument.

This is not Saudi Arabia this is America! The A in USA doesn't mean Arabia, it means America!

What am I talking about? Among the pathetic arguments against the "mosque" (its a cultural center you ignoramuses) the bigoted idiots spout out is "they don't allow churches in… Continue

The Haunted Brain

One of the most widespread beliefs held by the religious concerns something called the soul or spirit. As a concept, it spawns credulity in ghosts, out-of-body experiences, and incubuses like Christianity's Holy Ghost. Literally, this concept haunts the human mind.

Is there any truth to these… Continue

The Jews Killed Jesus - Christianity's Biggest Lie?

i was just watching this video on youtube, "the hidden jesus" where a christian theologian explores other religions with stories similar to the jesus story.

what got my attention was in part six where he makes the claim that "for the last 2000 years christianity and judaism have been at war over jesus. why? because of what some consider christianity's biggest lie."…

The Wise Man and The Fools - An Atheist Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, there was an old wise man who lived up high in the mountains. He was respected by the people who lived down the valley, and whenever they had a tricky question, they would take the long way up to visit him and ask for his wise advice.

One day, two fools came up to visit him. And they spoke to him and said: "Wise man, we would like to get your advice. We've been thinking about life and death, and we've realized that each of us has to die one day. So could you please… Continue

Mondo Diablo Episode 269 is Bacchanalia Part I: The Last and Least

Welcome to the first part of a big three-parter!

I have enjoyed Peter Schickele and his disovery, P.D.Q. Bach for, garsh, 25 years at least, for "Bob's" sake. Funny I haven't shared much with you yet. well, not so funny (yes, so funny). All of my music is on vinyl. So, I had to do an epic search and and epic emptying of my bank account to get some non-scratchy stuff. Of course, some of the… Continue

Believers are like Zombies

The other day I was chatting with a friend of mine on another site about the origins of the bible. I made the comment that it was interesting to me how people could still believe in the book even with the mountain of evidence against it. An aunt of mine chimmed in asking ,"what evidence?" I went through with her a lot of these evidences. We spent some time on the subject.

After it was all said and done all she said to me is,"I will pray for you." I thought to myself ," I bet she has…

Passive and Active Atheism

Atheism is often defined as "the absence of god-beliefs". This

definition is useful in debate, because it does not assume any burden of…

Building a Mosque at Ground Zero

I am atheist from a Muslim community, and living in a Muslim community and country too, I would say that building a mosque in general anywhere is evil, and in a particular place is the evilest, because mosque is not only for worshiping as some people guess, and like other worship's houses of other faiths, it is a headquarter or a kitchen for cooking so many decayed meals against humanity or humanists, freedom; personal or general freedoms, against those who live in America and don’t follow the… Continue

Manifest Destiny Revivalism and Glenn Beck

By Sikivu Hutchinson

During the 19th century, the “Manifest Destiny” of the United States was one of “God-ordained” expansionism. African slaves, indigenous peoples, Mexican nationals and other “non-Europeans” were deemed aliens and enemy combatants, anathema to the democratizing force of America. Using that “old time religion” to shepherd the flock on the 47th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington Glenn Beck’s “Divine Destiny” revival deftly mines this history. Beck’s…

Rant: Whats the Meaning and Purpose of Meaning and Purpose?

Many theists say that with out god life has no meaning and purpose, we atheists say that with out an afterlife life has more meaning and we make out own purpose, they reply with "but its not objective", we point out that objective meaning and purpose are impossible. Well here is a new question: Whats the meaning and purpose of meaning and purpose? Do happy people give a shit… Continue

Could Satan be the good guy?

First I want to say that I am not a satanist. I dont believe in him or anything like him. Just stick with me for a minute.

So god expeled Satan from heaven. What did Satan do? Did he think he could be more powerful than god? Or did he think he could do better than god? Maybe Satan saw how much of a prick god is and tryed to do something about it and god ,being a prick, kicked him out.

Everyone says that Satan is pure evil and that god is good. From what I have read I dont see…

Islamists Dreams

Mohammed has given his Islamist (slaves of Allah) false impression and deluded them that they are the best nation in the world, and they are the only people who will go heaven, any people else will go Hell in the life after according to his allegation. As a result, they suffer from megalomaniac , they have a conception that they are the only nation in the world who will go heaven and they are the most prefered nation in the world according to their Allah’s promise and description in Quran that… Continue

Sugar coating Bible Stories

As a Child I remember hearing the stories of Noahs Ark and how god saved Noah his family and two of every animal. It was taught in such a way that it made me believe that god was good and loving. Looking at it through my child eyes I could just see god telling Noah how the ark must be built. I could imagine god leading all the animals to the ark two by two. This all amazed me as a child. The stories of Sodom and Gomorrah and the like were all taught to me as a child in such a way that I…

Religion as a Sexually Transmitted Disease

Spoke at the Midwest Humanist Conference in Lincoln, NE on Sunday and gave my new presentation, Religion as a Sexually Transmitted Disease. Seemed to go over quite well. I just put a new clip from the presentation up on Youtube. Here is the link:

They had some great speakers including DJ Grothe, Greg Lammers, Dan Barker, but the surprise was Amanda Kneif whose presentation style and… Continue
