The body language of "charismatic" preaching

I went to a wedding not long ago, held in a church that I think is Pentecostal, certainly is happy-clappy "charismatic" evangelical in it's style. The preacher took the opportunity to "reach out" to the wedding guests who weren't members of his congregation, and went all-out to convince us of the love of God that was sweeping through the room, and that those who failed to heed this were damned. I didn't feel anything other than cold and uncomfortable; not only did I feel the fire and…

Well someone is gonna be fired :v

Sally Kohn doesn't belong there. She'll probably get fired pretty soon for straying from the message. To be fair, its the website, not the tv station....but that's still a grievous error on her part. Introducing fact to Fox is a contradiction.

Edit: Whoops, I don't think she actually works at Fox

Bible Game Show; 'Angry' Gods; Christian Homeschooling: religious Spin Doctors!

The bible thumpers have hired Marketing Strategists, Spin Doctors to help their justifing religion and trying different techniques. Recently, there seems to be more softening up of the religion image in order to draw in those sitting on the fenceline, teetertottering. Also seems to be more marketing and appeals to young adults.

*The new bible game show! Expensive and clever marketing aspect utilizing fun and competition while brainwashing and encouraging ppl to read bibles more…

Something I thought about today and wrote in a journal-Faith-hope and false-hope

I wrote this earlier tonight. Feel free to add something that I might have missed or your own ideas or if perhaps there is something I should stress.

Hope-False Hope-Faith

Religiously speaking!!

Hope-a belief that something will happen or can be had. Something you are looking forward to in a positive thinking manner for the future that has a positive outcome in your favor.

"I truly hope that they pick me for the team. I worked so hard and trained all… Continue

Harvard creates cyborg flesh

"These cyborg tissues are half living cells, half electronics. As far as the cells are concerned, they’re just normal cells that behave normally — but the electronic side actually acts as a sensor network, allowing a computer to interface directly with the cells. In…

Mitt Romney -- "The Faith of My Fathers" - Part III Is Romney an Obedient Mormon or the Fulfillment of Prophecy?

Mormons are a highly disciplined group, known to follow the dictates of the Church hierarchy with little question.  Mormons believe that the President of their Church is a prophet that receives direct revelations from God.  Direct revelations lead to some startling reversals in Mormon doctrines and practice such as polygamy, though some, including Romney’s paternal grandparents continued to practice it.  Another…

Am I the Only Single and Looking 30 Something Lesbian on the Nexus?

I came to Atheist Nexus for friends and community with fellow freethinkers. I have found some of the warmest, kindest, most understanding people here. They are like an internet family I sit with each night, and sometimes during the day while I work from home, and I could not be happier to have found them. However, something is missing.

I took three years off dating to get a degree, find myself, figure out what I want in a relationship. I've done that now, and I plan to leave the bible…

Einstein God Letter resurfacing

When the greatest mind in our history gives his true feelings on God and religion and says "... The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses,...."

I found this on the Richard Dawkins site:…

Mitt Romney -- "The Faith of My Fathers" - Part II Is Romney a Polytheist?

The last installment compared Mitt Romney’s statement of faith to Kennedy’s address to the Houston Ministerial Association in 1960. This time, we will examine just a few features of Romney’s Mormon faith.…

But God put these people in my life for a reason

Oh how I used to buy in to that! I surely did. That is how I was raised. My mother drilled it in my head.

"Sorry you had a benign tumor in your knee that nearly took your entire knee out and you had to have a bone graph done on your hip and you could no longer play field hockey. God has a plan for you and put this obstacle in your life for a reason". (I love my mom just not her thinking)

"Sorry your husband cheated on you. God has a plan. He put him in your life to teach… Continue

Hatred of Atheists plummets to new depths of stupidity

This post is of a more personal nature than usual for me. I was browsing through Reddit recently and came across a link to a bizarre article claiming that research has linked "overt atheism" and mental illness. The story cites no references and contains no links confirming that the study is real. Funnily enough, "Damien", the owner of this website says on his homepage that…

An Extraordinary "Ordinary" Man

There was an interesting incident which occurred while my wife and I were en route to Kauai this past Saturday.  One of the flight attendants was on his last flight for United Air Lines … at age 84 and after 63 years of service!  This man – Ron Akana was his name – had started back in 1949, back when DC-6’s plied the skies and commercial jets were unheard…

A lot has changed since I was here last at I finally moved out of the Bible Belt. There were a few atheists in central Illinois, but we were up against religious institutions so deeply entrenched in state and local government that putting forward progressive rational public policy is met with vicious, irrational hatred and bigotry. The state would rather have unquestioning loyal sheep that vote on name recognition alone than to have people who question authority and demand…

When Should Atheists Keep Their Mouths Shut? (And When Not?)

“God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable.  They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: He will set them above their betters.”

H.L. Mencken

“I find it necessary to wash my hands after I have come   into contact with religious people.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

Someone wrote me a letter.

One day, I questioned god. Someone wrote me a reply to my claim. Here it is.

God never sends people to hell. people may wonder "Why is there a hell and "How can a loving god send people to hell"

this is no new question, it has been ased across the century to prove christains wrong.....

then he goes on to blabber about adam and eve and what commands they were given. Which, had nothing to do with what I stated.

Then he states

"He cannot allow unperfecy sould…
