Without the shedding of blood is no remission...
I do not understand how there could have been a time in my life when that statement did not seem absurd to me. Now that the fog has been lifted, I see the absolute ridiculousness of the concept of blood atonement for the forgiveness of the sin of being a human being. I simply cannot understand how the concept of a god that required...even craved blood could in any way make…Continue
Free will is an important concept that affects a variety of serious thought. Legally it is assumed criminals have a choice in committing a crime, but science shows that may not be the case. Research shows that most…Continue
Pat said gays in San Francisco are using special rings to infect other people with AIDS when they shake hands. This page is calling for a boycott of CBN saying:
Tell CBN: It's time for Pat Robertson to go.
I don't have a lot of experience with boycotts but for the sake of solidarity, how can we get a list of…Continue

(CN) - A Wisconsin inmate's request to form an atheist study group deserves the same consideration afforded to a recognized "religious" group, the 7th Circuit ruled.
This is the second case in which inmate James Kaufman has attempted to compel the prison system to allow him to form and participate in an atheist group, the same way other inmates are allowed to…Continue

About five or six years ago, I read Alan Weisman's The World Without Us. Its content has stuck with me many times over.
In the book, Chernobyl is referred to as one of those "worlds". And a PBS show featured that area as a good example of how nature reestablishes itself.
Living in a rural area (north central Indiana), I'm very cognizant of the war between man and nature. Farmers subdue all nature's attempts. Weeds, grasses,…Continue
Not quite four years ago and not long after I joined Atheist Nexus, the incident with Nidal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood happened. I wrote about it then and wondered at what motivated Hasan to do what he did. As the discovery process and the trial unfolded, we learned, about Anwar al-Awlaki and Hasan’s communications with him, about Hasan’s radicalization, at least in part from that association and…Continue
It has been about three weeks since I was inspired by some unknown force (that I do not call god) to involve myself in the freethought/new atheist movement. It began when I returned from my vacation to Northern California. My husband and I drove from Northwestern Oregon to San Francisco, and I realized that I noticed the natural beauty in a way that I never had before. Somehow that inspired me to google "atheist" when I arrived home. Since then, I can't get enough of The Thinking…Continue
Folks don't know just what it's for,
Nobody gives us rhyme or reason,
Have one doubt, they call it treason,
We're chicken-feathers, all without one gut
Tryin' to make it real — compared to what?
When Les McCann and Eddie Harris released the album Swiss Movement, a live recording from the…Continue
Since I joined this site, several people have requested information about litigation I have been involved in regarding Atheism. Here's the short version.
I was a prison inmate in Wisconsin, and was tired of all the special privileges that were routinely granted to Christians, Muslims, the whole theistic crew. I decided that Atheists should have rights and privileges equal to all of those people who believe in that white-bearded old man in the sky. So, using the prison…Continue
Narendra Dabholkar, leading anti-superstition campaigner of India, social worker and journalist, was gunned down in Pune by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants on 20th august, 2013.
The attack took place around 7.30 a.m.IST near Omkareshwar Temple, when Dabholkar, in his 60s, was on his morning walk. The two gunmen fired indiscriminately at Dabholkar and sped away, leaving him in a pool of blood. The assailants fired four rounds at him from a …
Evolution is not something you believe in or don't believe in. Belief pertains to elves, fairies, angels, demons, or gods, ect. Evolution; you either understand it, you don't understand it or you don't want to understand it. It has nothing to do with belief.
Being on my "all things atheist" kick, I have been feeling rather enraged about my own childhood indoctrination and being scared of hell. I'm having a bit of cognitive dissonance because I can't bring myself to be angry at my parents, since I understand that they were also victims.
I have been reading a number of blog entries and statements made by atheists, asserting that teaching children about hell is a form of child abuse. I absolutely agree with this! However, being…Continue

Jesus missed his chance. He said he was coming back in the time of his apostles but he didn't.
Seems like this is a thing to do on here, so I'll join in with it. If you want to read my REAL blog full of weekly religious criticism, visit http://1sthorseman.wordpress.com/.
So anyway, my name is Robert Kangas. I was born in 1992 in Vaasa, which is located in the Bible-belt of Finland. Vaasa though is the largest city in the Bible-belt, and thus is pretty secular compared to rural areas. Both my parents are non-religious, but I did…Continue
