God Bless Atheism

On my website, I try to keep up to date with Pat Condell's videos. He's got 60 videos, so far, and I have the first 58 of them on my Videos page. His latest 2, on YouTube, are only available from the Pat Condell channel for now -- there's no embed code yet. His video #59 (The Arrogance of Clergy) is the best one so far, in my opinion. He really knocks this one out of… Continue

My Reflection on revising public health services....

So, I went to the NYPH board for a routine HIV/STD test and the process is terrifying enough...However, the ways in which the officials go about making individuals feel calm, confident and important is horrible. Not to mention the individuals were not called in the order in which they arrived...Which caused more chaos. Also, individuals that do not recieve good results should not be sent back to the general waiting room. They need to have immediate counseling and consulation. These people just… Continue

Have A Great All Hallows Eve

Just felt like wishing all my fellow A|N Members a joyous Samhain and one "hell" of a night tonight. Even though my city/street is rather "dead" on this holiday, I still enjoy the good memories I have of years past where I'd either go Trick Or Treating or scare the living piss outta other people who dare tred upon my doorstep. First they get Tricked into think I'm a lifeless decoration then after I do a low growling Metal voice shout, they get a Treat for not running away.… Continue

Fed up

I attended my mom's funeral today. My son Gary and his girlfriend are deaf so we were interpreting for them the funny stories that the pastor was telling. Of course we laughed and thought of my mom.

We didn't attend the dinner afterwards, we (my kids and their spouses and kids) went to a restaurant for lunch.

You know, it's hard enough that my mom died and I will never go fishing with her again, but to have someone say that we laughed all through the service for my mom was just… Continue

A Good Quote

Occasionally I run across something that is poignant or simply well put. I especially like quotes that speak to the essence of what it is to be "human". I just ran across this, and to make certain it belonged to the author who originally posted it, I ran an entire sentence of it through the Google search. If a quote belongs to someone else and it is online, that search will find it. I have searched many times for whole sentences, often discovering that I have misquoted it for… Continue

Can Atheists Believe In An Afterlife?

First, lets forget I asked that question because even if someone says I can't - I DON'T CARE BECAUSE I DO. But seriously, is there anybody else out there who doesn't believe in Gods but thinks there could be a different plane of existance.

I've seen a few Ghosts, mostly Family members or fallen pets and other just random people who clung to this world after death I suppose. I've never felt scared or threatend by any of them, well... one time I thought my room shaking a bit odd… Continue

Wild "Community" of Non-Theists: Do Atheists Need a High Priest (Dawkins, Stenger, Harris, Hitchens)?

Since it seems as timely as it did a few months ago, I'm reposting this breakdown of Atheists.

What think ye, freethinkers?

I've been thinking about the many different kinds of freethinkers/atheists/non-theists I run into. Here is my breakdown of the sectarians in the naturalistic "community." I hope this starts a healthy, productive, creative discussion!

A: Angry, aggressive and obsessed with anything anti (a, a, a, non, un. . .)

T: Thoughtful, thinkers and…

What school do I apply to?

Usually people blog about atheism, non religion...things of that nature. However, I am going through a hell of a crisis. I am trying to figure out what I am going to do in terms of what schools to apply to, and traditional versus online/disance learning. Lastly, the tests scores that I must obtain just to be accepted....So, I am freaking out a little.

Why Smart People Feel Frustrated and Displaced

Ok, get ready to fuss at me for being a jerk....

The average IQ score is 100, with a standard deviation of 15 points. This makes the normal range from 85 to 115. One more standard deviation on either end, from 70 to 130, encompasses dull normal and bright normal. Anything below two standard deviations, or <69, is considered mentally retarded. Anything above two standard deviations, or >130, is considered gifted. 95% of the general population has IQs that fall between 70 and… Continue

Islam and the Quran: A young woman's point of view

This discussion, from an atheist website, involves a young ex-Muslim woman (Mona) and me (Atheist Exile).

Posted by Mona:

I'm 20 and I live in Norway, Oslo. My name is Mona & I love ♥

I began my “quest” to find the truth 3 years ago! It all started with trying to become more religious, I never was a practicing Muslim and I've always asked questions I never seem to get proper answers to. But still, I could never imagine myself leaving Islam,…

NOTE: I've also posted this on the military atheists section of this site.

For some time I've pondered this idea.

It's not a new idea by any means.

In fact, there have been two countries that I know of who have used this option.

One still uses it.

The other quite doing it back in the 1980's.

One was Spain and the other France.

They both had "Foreign Legions" as part of their military.

I know almost nothing… Continue

How about a little Halloween movie?

If you watched cable during the late 80s and 90s you might remember this little gem of television programming called Mystery Science Theater 3000. If not that's even better! I love sharing my cult TV obsessions with the uninitiated. :) This movie has an extra groan factor just for us atheists: it's all about witches and witch burnings, demons and even includes that public domain favorite "Amazing Grace."

Episode summary from… Continue

Blasphemy or the Truth

While I respect the right of any person to believe as they wish, I also believe that the right to speak our minds freely and without fear of reprisal, intimidation or sanction is a hallmark of Western democracy. We should not surrender our rights in order to provide uncertain security in the face of violent opposition to contrary opinions. Ben Franklin wrote, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”.

There is… Continue

The Never Ending Story!

It the Never ending stooooooooorrryyyyyyyy!!!! (And for those of you who have not seen the movie, Don't Watch It!)

Atheism Vs Theism is an old debate, a long and old debate.

I am a dedicated Atheist, I will fight with Theism on every front, but this old tired process of Atheism being the minority is getting on my Nerves!

Why must Atheism continue to be the minority?

The Debate reminds me of an analogy: Two kids are sitting in a sandbox, pulling… Continue

So-Called 'Public Option' - Survey on Fox News web site today: YOU DECIDE

Would you support health care reform legislation if it did not contain the government-run insurance option?

OPT1) Absolutely. Congress should stick to legislating laws and regulations, and let the free-market system work.

OPT2) Probably. I’m still unsure whether reforms will cut my medical bills, but something has to be done.

OPT3) No. The current health care system works fine. Leave it alone and let the free-market system work.

OPT4)… Continue
