Almost all religions place a high priority on charity as a means to the end of a good quality of life in the hereafter. I am told that early Christians took this tenet so seriously they organized communes and forbade ownership of property, real or personal. The "good book" recites that the prophet used the metaphor of a camel passing trough the eye of a needle to represent the difficulty in going to Heaven if you act like you can take it with you. Yet here we have a movement in…Continue

Among abominations, American slavery holds a particularly odious distinction among atrocities not only because of its brutality and cold-blooded barbarity, but also because of…Continue
Check out this blog post. Your comments are welcome. Zombie and its relation to the Grenadian African culture and its connection to the Christian Jesus.
History is a funny thing. The more I live through the more out of touch with history I have become. There was a time when a first person account of a historical event was deemed primary evidence when assessing both the event itself and the implications that followed from the event. Now eye-witness accounts are treated as 'anecdotal evidence' as if they were some story I made up about what happened even though it happened in front of my eyes and to me. Unless they mesh with the received…Continue
Hi all. Thank you so much to all of you who reached out to me last week expressing your sympathy for us having to euthanize our cat. I greatly appreciate that. My new post is up. You can read it here: Christianity: On the Wrong Side of History (again)

A lot of you wonder how I feel about human life and when it begins. I get a lot of puzzled prayers on it. "Lord," these supplicants say. "do you really mean it when you say some four-cell blastocyst is the same as a real breathing human being like Ted Nugent or Honey Boo-Boo?"
To which I respond, Hell yeah. Life is sacred because I make it that way. All seven billion of you are made in My image, from the coldest Eskimo in Nome to the hottest stripper in…

It's a long story, but Richard Dawkins visited and spoke at our school a few weeks ago. For the full story and some pics, go here!
Edited by John Brockman. My latest read. Several writers mention lack of scientific thinking in America/world. Suggestions to remedy this by a product marketing approach, complete with focus groups and sound bites and relentless marketing. I'd like to be a part of that. The Science Party? Or do we have this already in the Green Party? If so, it's a failure thus far.

I am a male standing 5 feet 10 inches, now 60 years of age. Almost three years ago, in January 2010, I stepped on the scale and saw 215 lbs; I decided to take action to begin losing weight. I have lost a bit over 35 lbs so far. I call what I have done a "Lazy Man's Diet" because it has been effortless; I have never gone hungry, never done exercise beyond what I was doing before, never suffered cravings or felt deprived. I have never counted calories, never weighed or measured my food beyond…Continue
It has been said that all good things must come to an end. That, sadly, is what ShockNet Radio's American Heathen is doing - tonight's show is the next-to-last edition of the program, which first aired Dec. 25, 2005. But if you think American Heathen is going out with a whimper - think again! Right to the very end, American Heathen (airing at 8 ET/5 PT TONIGHT) will continue to promote the seemingly foreign concepts (to some) of LIBERTY and…Continue

"During a nighttime service, as Christian rock played, boys overcome by emotion fell to their knees and cried. Drill instructors hugged them, held them and whispered prayers into their ears."
Me thinks, traditions have faltered and the neo-modern? youths get the brunt of the bs mantras...…

Hope you are all doing well. Sorry for the lack of posts this week. We have had a sick cat that my wife and I had to euthanize yesterday. This has taken up quite a bit of my free time and I didn't really feel like writing. Anyway, my new post is up. I think it is one of my better posts. I am curious to know your thoughts. You can read it here:…Continue
Dr. Dawkins' new documentary, Sex, Death and the Meaning of Life is now out and available on YouTube. It features my research and material from my book Sex and God: How Religion Distorts Sexuality. As usual, for Dawkins, it is well done and thought provoking. Two of the three episodes are now out.…Continue
What follows is a question I asked honestly, in the discussion section of a story on ABCNews.com. That is an EXCELLENT place to battle a theist. But "honestly", I would follow "the truth" whatever it would be -if it was the truth. Still it seems, I will remain safely on this site for a very long time :).
Me: Really, everyone, I'm ready to believe the truth and join your group. Please, someone answer my question with something plausible? I am not…Continue
