It may be true. It is much of a surprise than Islam drew postulations from Christianity.Continue
It appears highly probable that the teachings of Buddha, in the form of Greco-Buddhism which was picked up and spread by Hellenistic groups associated with Alexander The Great around 300BC assisted in spreading many of the Buddhist philosophies throughout the Hellenistic world of which the so called birthplace of Jesus Christ was included. So it was extremely probable that Jesus (if he existed) had knowledge of such Buddhist philosophies. Something Christians had wrongly denied by…Continue

Tis the season to be thankful.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States I'd like to talk a bit about what I see as the two acts of thankfulness: being thankful concerning ones self, and being thankful towards another. I will attempt to make the case that both forms of thanks when properly expressed are essential habits in a humanist.
Somewhat as a preamble there is the topic of how the word 'thankful' has in a way been co-opted by Christians. I became…Continue
It will be another beautiful day here in Phoenix.......to all those who celebrate turkey day have a nice one......as for me it reminds me too much of the genocide of the indian nations,so I just chuck off to another day........as far as being thankfull, that I am.....I have so much compared to many......please remember the homeless as this time of year especially they are cold and hungry,of course remember them year round. Have a great thanksgiving to each and everyone that will celebrate…Continue
Indoctrination of children here and around the world is totally unacceptable . Both church and state are heavily involved with this to better control the masses. It plants hate and fear into the hearts of those subjected to it,as it stunts the intellectual growth of the individual. Religion is an opiate for the masses.
I'm not introverted. I have a big personality and can take over a room in 5 seconds. Not in a bad way. I like making people laugh and I am a storyteller. Seriously, people will stop what they are doing and make their way to where I am to listen. A lot of people say its my voice. People constantly say I sound like Seth Rogen, but I digress. I am outgoing, I have a lot of "friends" but really only one Friend. I tend to keep people at a distance. Not because I fear people but I just don't make…Continue
what a beautiful feeling it is to be awakened from a deep psychosis into a world that makes perfect sense where fact, logic and reason prevail......where all the years of indoctrination melt away.......have a beautiful day to each and everyone!
When it comes to irritants, religious recruiters rank two steps lower than telemarketers on my tolerance scale. Making assumptions about anyone’s spiritual condition is not only presumptuous, but is borderline dangerous, as proselytizers have no way of judging the mental state of those they approach. In a…Continue
I'm still here. Still in Mississippi. Still surrounded and outnumbered by ignorance.
We have a new mayor. The coffeehouse is open. There's a new corporate chain pizza store. But, really, nothing's changed because the core of the culture of this place has not been impacted one smidgen by any of these superficial changes. The core of this culture is scared of the world and unquestioningly submissive to the God myth.
The new mayor used to be the Representative to the State…Continue

"All God's Mistakes" by Charles L. Bosk, is an interesting read if for no other reason than the book's title. The book is a piece of research dealing with birth anomalies from the stand point of the bearer of bad news. Speaking of his research, Bosk details the often difficult decisions that confront parents of newborns…Continue
A few years ago I was at the local country store. It's what passes as a restaurant in these parts. While I was sitting there, reading the weekly paper, a young man came in and started running his mouth to the clerk. He was talking about a national sports incident where a black football player had a domestic violence incident with his white girlfriend.
He threw around the n word a LOT. "Fucking n***** with a white women. That's disgusting...." He continued on in this vein for…Continue

Dennis Pennington has commented that many Atheists carry much baggage from religion. I agree. One piece of baggage I am particularly bothered by is Romantic Primitivism. The myth of the Garden of Eden lives on in a wide spread belief life was better when humanity was still in its most primitive stage. We romanticise about what life was like in more primitive society.
These myths gained popularity when Rousseau wrote the Social Contract and the Origins of Inequality as answers to a…Continue
What I have here is a list of those models of decorum--Protestant pastors and all of their wacky and weird shenanigans. I…Continue
My husband (who is a believer) saw that I joined this group and he does not understand why "I need to make a big deal about religion"( his words). I tried explaining how I felt but he does not understand. I told him for the first time there are people who believe the same as me that I can talk to but he does not understand why I need talk about it. He thinks I just want to cause conflict with his family and the religious community that we live in :(
It was a very sad time for me when I heard the news about the death of Frank Zappa in 1993 from cancer.
His sarcastic humor and incredible musical ability with a completely non-commercial outlook on the entire music industry gave me some of my outlook on life and skepticism.
He was always skeptical of everything and shunned commercialism.
Frank Zappa epitomized the Social and political Skepticism…Continue
I was in class tonight, and the girl who sat in front of me brought up the topic of how Sylvia Browne died (I have my opinion on how deplorable of a person she was, but I will not go into that, I think we are all aware) and of how sad she felt about it. My ears perked. First, the fact that she had any kind of emotional reaction upon hearing the news of her death is beyond me, but I digress. Then she proceeded to talk of how great she was. Ok, now first off, I know better…Continue
