The ongoing feud between Reza Aslan and the so-called “New Atheists” continues to shed more heat than light. The latest round of this race to the bottom of the intellectual barrel comes to us in the form of a Salon piece written by Aslan. It presently carries the provocative title, “Reza Aslan: Sam Harris and “New…Continue
We Agnostics & Freethinkers International A.A. Conference November 6th to 8th, 2014 was the first all-secular International gathering of atheist in Alcoholics Anonymous. The General Service Office of AA sent a delegation to share in this historical event.
At many AA gatherings, there are prayers and talk about how personalized concepts of higher powers are answering prayers and granting sobriety to those who tried but failed at getting sober on their own. Lots of people…Continue

I am from the land of India, proud to be an atheist cum secular humanist and am convinced that one can be a good and compassionate human being irrespective of whether we have faith in god(s) or not.
For some, the benefits one gets from an implicit faith in God & Religion cannot be matched by any secular philosophies. Such persons would say “I have made up my mind that Gods exist, so don’t confuse me with facts”.…
To retain his sanity in this mad mad world, man has to have some delusions in his life and God delusion happens to be one of them. Some of us need the reassurance the God delusion gives them that there is a father-figure or mother-figure (albeit invisible), to give protection to them in this life and in the afterlife. And to hell with the truth.
If we are totally convinced that there are omniscient, omnipotent & omnipresent forces…
That time of year is very nearly upon us, and so it is appropriate that I post this now, I suppose. I literally just learned of this through the good offices of Seth Andrews and The Thinking Atheist podcast. I do truly wish the following were words of my own invention, but they're not. About all I can do is offer them to you for your enjoyment and edification.
Along with my very best wishes for a happy and safe Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanza / Yule / Saturnalia /…
Hope ya'll have a fabulous day before reading this, not that this thought bubble is about to alter the good fizz you might be feeling at the moment ... I dare not propose such significance! If only to add to the fizz :)
I have been following the Mike Brown / Officer Wilson tragedy - with cautious curiosity. Hard not to have an opinion - but the dichotomy that stood out for me was the religious plea on both camps. I am particularly placed in a particular state of mind for the…Continue

People tell me that god is the god of love and justice. I read in the bible that truth will set me free. I also read a list of lies, distortions, delusions that rival any of Brothers Grimm's fairy tales. I read and see murders, genocides, obscenities to match any pornography of modern authors and wonder if anyone who believes in god has ever read this sacred book. I watch as people who claim to be full of love and compassion carry signs declaring hate for women's right to control their own…Continue
The ReThink Prize is giving away $1K each to the best ten secular commandments for the 21st century. Here are my ten submissions.
What Does Science Say?
In a famous letter to an American mother, world renowned psychiatrist Sigmund Freud, wrote in 1935: "Homosexuality is assuredly no advantage, but it is nothing to be ashamed of, no vice, no degradation, it…Continue
"¡Hemos nombrado el error principal de la mente humana, la pesadilla de la felicidad humana, el pervertidor de la virtud humana! ¡Es la religión, esa moneda oscura de la ignorancia temblorosa! ¡Es la religión, esa envenenadora de la felicidad humana! ¡Es la religión, esa guía ciega de la razón humana! ¡Es la religión, esa detronadora de la virtud humana que yace en la raíz de todo el mal y toda la miseria que impregnan el mundo!"

Nearly two-week stand off between the supporters and security personnel of Satguru Rampal Baba, which escalated into violence and high drama. At last on19th, he was arrested from his ashram. In India, every year some god men go to jail, many more are exposed to be frauds and fakes.
I was reminded last night why I don’t go out to socialize much: because people are stupid. This is something I realized early on in childhood when I found I couldn’t relate to my peers because they were dumbasses who believed in Santa and other magic sky-people, and who would tell me that my family and I were going to imaginary-fire-prison-in-the-ground if we didn’t go with them to a stupidly expensive building some other idiots built to talk to imaginary sky-people and ask for their…Continue
In the Closet
"In the closet" means keeping one’s homosexual orientation hidden, often acting as a heterosexual to avoid discovery. At one time in the United States, this wasn’t deceitful behavior but a prudent…Continue
I went to the supermarket yesterday about 3 PM, wearing my facemask.
I started to feel slightly off when I was there.
So when I was checking out, I asked the grocery clerk if there had been a dog there earlier.
She said yes, there was a dog there about 10 AM.
And I did get an allergic reaction to it ...
Five hours after a dog was in the supermarket - ceilings 20 feet high or so. And I got sick from that, it seems!
I bought a respirator on…Continue
Does life have a meaning or any meaning at all? Or, does life even have to have a meaning.
Was just pondering this and thought to throw it out there for maybe some thoughts.
Any Community, USA
In the United States, no welcome sign ever hung out for homosexuals, but they have been here since the nation began. Although no one ever said anything about it, homosexuals lived in my community for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t a…Continue
A little bit of context to start— I’m currently living in China, teaching English at a kindergarten. The school I work for arranged an apartment for me, which I share with another teacher. It’s a nice place in a nice neighborhood, and my Chinese is good enough that I can get around and even help translate for other expats – don’t worry for me!
My roommate and I get along for the most part. Our habits match up pretty well, so it’s not like there are constant arguments about one…Continue
Yes, it's Time for Turkey, as the lady on the radio says. Or rather, as all those made-up freaks on the food network say. Actually, to tell you the truth, I love Thanksgiving Live on the Food Network. Much better than the balloon parade. Just listen to my sermon on the podcast, and Keep Calm.
