Chapter Three; EVOLUTION AND RELIGION part ten

While many reasonable adherents do , to one level or another, believe in evolution. Why should evolution have any bearing on religion one way or the other? Some of these levels of belief range from belief in

“micro-evolution” to accepting most of the concepts and ideas of

cosmological and biological evolution, in view of an absent watchmaker.

So, what scientific reason can evolution have with such a seemingly

strong opposing view against it? After all, in March 2009, a…

We are all connected

I have to tell you, I was moved to tears when I first watched this video last night, something only Mufasa's death in The Lion King has ever managed to do before. The thought that we are intricately and inextricably a part of the universe we live in is a beautiful one, one that is a million times more uplifting, enriching and awe inspiring than anything any religion or god could ever invoke.
As this is my last post of the year, I thought this would be a…

Going into 2011

I am sending out good wishes for all who have dared to log into sites such as this, seeking out like minded individuals. I will pop on every once in awhile but I really don't stay "wired in" or "linked up" or whatever the phrase is. So far, I haven't had the desire to purchase an I-phone for this reason, as well as the unnecessary expense. I attempt to keep my life as simple as possible in the hopes of retiring as soon as possible.

Try to infect others with the ability to THINK and… Continue

Josh Brecheen hits the big time.

Looks like newly elected Oklahoma State Senator is getting a real education in foot in mouth disease. Since his editorial has been posted in The Durant Daily Democrat on December 22, 2010 there has been

national reaction in the forums blogs and other places as well. Sadly it

looks like we [none creation people] are going to be the losers in this

battle. If you have been keeping up with my blogs you know that I have

mentioned the idea that those that are faced with facts…

Back to the Future

I perceive sad aspects of life that I do not like to admit to myself. In the face of death, we will do anything to survive. Our morals fall apart at the threat of non-existence. There is no such thing as truth or knowledge or progress. We are slaves to causality; to chemical compulsions that feel like our own doing. We will never understand our origins, our purpose, or our ends. Such questions are pointless, and decisions that would be motivated by their answers are…

Chapter Three; LOOKING DEEPER part eight

While I was in the Army, stationed in The Republic of Panama, I started getting involved with hermeneutics. I was stationed there for 15 months and had a lot of free time to fill. I studied using The

Amplified Bible that was given to me as a gift from a good friend of

mine, in addition to other study books. Here is a quote from the web

site of The Amplified Bible about why it was made; “It attempts to take

both word meaning and context into account in order to…

God is good.

a little conversation from facebook I just had to post, after I pick my jaw up from off the floor.

J. I am totally blessed. Literally everyone in front of me where getting flights out on the 31st and Jan 2nd. I even thought of renting a car and then I prayed. My turn and the agent said there was one seat on a flight to Atlanta in 6 hrs from Boston . Delta would pay for the 2-3 hr taxi down. Then in Atlanta there was an 11pm flight to Nashville . I took it.…

Chapter Three; THE RISE OF SCIENCE part seven

As mentioned before, the level of my religious experiences could fill many pages. So, while there is much more to be said, most is going to be skipped for now. I am just going to touch on a five main areas of why Christianity lost its hold on me.

1.The age of rocks on the Earth and the amount of time it takes for light to travel through space couldn't be rectified with text in the Bible. The best answer I received was, “God put all the things there when he created The Universe.” This… Continue

Another update on Josh Brecheen.

It has been good to see the mostly positive reaction to the ill-conceived comments of Oklahoma State SEN Josh Brecheen. If this man is looking to make a name for himself, he

certainly is. He put an editorial in the local paper from his senate

district, The Durant Daily Democrat. In addition to the uproar over

several things wrong with attempting to try to have creation taught

in public schools, the comments in the newspapers website have…

Oh the sneaky sons of bastards

So I was planning on refreshing my memory a little and searching for any new advances in astronomy, and so googled "big bang theory". Under the results for the (amazingly funny) sitcom and the Wikipedia article was a promising link: I click it. Read a bit...some things raise a few warning flags, but I read on...surely the science is… Continue

Tis the season for reason!

Our DNA is about 97% identical to chimpanzees. But the thing that separates us from animals is our ability to reason.

Leaders of institutions that demonize reason and would cause mankind to

act based on a fear-based motivational system of... carrots and sticks would essentially have the masses become dogs to satisfy their self-aggrandizement.

Reason is what makes us…

Twenty Things Showing That god Is An Epic Troll

I found this on, I Heart Chaos, and just had to share. It is hard to comprehend that the believers don't have any issues with this stuff.

Online "closet" atheists annoy me. Does that happen to you?

Yes they do. I don't hate them, but there is something in them that makes me feel sort of uneasy.

I have counted myself among those without religion for quite some time. I'm pretty open about it and I'm always eager to talk about it when the occasion is right (which isn't all the time, of course). So, as much as I'm open about it "in real life", I'm open about it online. I don't hide my name, nor my face and whoever wants to find me online can do it with a couple of clicks.…

Santa Clause is not real?

I asked my family this weekend why they as Christians feel it is OK to lie to their children about Santa Clause.  I explained that, to me, it seemed quite hypocritical that one of the Christian tenants is not to lie, but yet in celebration of the very beginning of Christianity Christians lie to their children about this man who brings toys. The answer I got was because it brings so much joy to the children.  So, is it one of those "ends justifies the means" types of…
