In my last post, I wrote about "anticipation". Well, here, on the last day of the year, the promise of a great year lies ahead in 2013. I'm eager for it to begin!
For me personally, it all really starts in February when I escape to the Florida Panhandle for two weeks. This will be the third year out of four that I've rented a place a block from the beach (Mexico Beach, FL., actually). It's a good getaway from Indiana weather and winter routines. More on that later.
Sometime in…

One thing I truly struggle with, as an atheist, as a person, as a friend to believers, is that huge gap between what REALLY IS and what believers have to do in order to continue making sense of reality through the eyes of their belief. They must redefine words and phrases again and again. They must find a way to hold "free will" and "God's will" together in one hand and figure out how those concepts can adequately explain things. Believers must repeat, like…

Apparently Professor Peter Higgs has described Richard Dawkins as concentrating "his attacks on fundamentalists. But there are many believers who are just not fundamentalists" (Source). …

Since we will likely be using our 1943 electric wringer washer for the foreseeable future, there are safety lessons I need to remember about these devices. (The manufacturer of our front…

Since I’ve been talking a ton about morality, I thought I’d throw this out there: Euthy… Euthyph… Euthyphro’s Dilemma (trying saying that name five times fast). Basically the dilemma is the following: does God only report what is already moral and what is immoral, or does he determine what is moral and what is immoral? [read more at godlessteens.com]

Yep, it's that time of year. Time to regurgatate all the events of the past 12 months.
Who did what, who died, weather "biggies", politics, tragedies, etc. It was bad enough we had to listen to all that news the first time. Now we get a repeat perfomance.
It's not all that bad we get reminded of what happened. You know the "doomed to repeat it" mantra regarding history. But still, enough is enough.
I'm a "futurist". I would rather look toward the new year rather than…

(1:1) He who desires to inform you about any imperceptible matter like God or Allah, you will demand listening fees to him before. If he disagrees, you will avoid him to save your valuable time. You can spend the time for the welfare of the people.

Volume 6 - Whats Wrong With Our Schools - from the Milton Friedman Free to Choose videos. http://www.freetochoose.tv/
The discussion in the last half of the video was very heated on all sides, even Milton himself. My guess is that the discussions all over the world about education are similarly heated. And I would venture that they are so heated because all those having the discussion are too close to the problem.
Science has been…

Today, I had the fantastic luck of seeing this first thing in the morning. Although I wouldn’t call myself a Democrat, I am far more Democratic-leaning than GOP-leaning, and this article only helped fuel my hatred for the GOP even more. [Read more at godlessteens.com]

While I usually say nothing about the weather in my blogs (boooring), I must say my residence avoided the worst of the blizzard that hit Indiana yesterday (the 26th). I have no idea how much snow I got, because it drifted, leaving bare ground next to two foot high snow banks. I'm guessing 6-7 inches. Of my 150' driveway, I only have to shovel out about 20'.
I'm not going anywhere, anyhow. Not even for a walk/jog. I'm an exercise nut, nearly obsessive, but I hate the cold, let alone…
