Good day all, let me start by saying this is my first social networking site and first blog post of all time! I could only fight against the times for so long.
A little about myself: I've been an atheist since I was very young. I can't recall any one event that drove me to freeing myself from the bonds of the christian faith, but rather a long progression of little things that made me question and wonder. My family knows and has come to accept it over time, though I find myself in a… Continue
Tomorrow our semester starts back, which means I have to return to the classroom. It is always hard to go back after a semester break. For me the dread is not because of teaching - necessarily - but because of all the useless wastes of time that accompany a semester in term. Faculty meetings rise to the top of the hate list. Perhaps I'll do more blogging during faculty meetings this time around... I think that helps.
Anyway, this semester I'm teaching a course on the environment,… Continue
You may have heard of creationist attempts to silence critics on Youtbe by filing false DMCA claims.
Several youtube gurus , many of whom have experienced the immoral tactics of creationists, have banded together to pool their resources and subscribers together to fight this sort of behavior on youtube and to pressure youtube to do something about it.
Below is the video announcing the Channel, do yourself a favour and subscribe.
Today I wrote about 20 reasons I am godless. I'm sure there are lots more than 20, but it was a good start. Suggestions and refinements to my list are most welcome. :)
I find it impossible to sleep on a regular basis. It really helps if I have somebody to chat with! Anybody willing to talk intelligent atheist stuff (or any fuckin' random thing) with a lesbian in the middle of the night? Message me!
My recent blog post deconstructed an old joke about God. Here are three more. Each of these depicts God in a way that requires humans to do stuff, thus giving a divine permission to behave immorally.
Joke 1: Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in…Continue
Happy new year. Happy, happy. I want to be a happy, healthy, hopeful atheist, but throughout the workweek, whenever the obligatory supernaturalism is projected onto incidents by the ignorant around me and I reply placidly that it might be better to go with a reasonable explanation of world events, often as not, I get this tiresome response: "I don't know HOW you can do that- how can you live without believing in something?" And then comes the inevitable, "Well, you can believe what you want,… Continue

I used to remember everything
I could work the show and run the game
That man is dead
He has been replaced with a mockery
Just to tease me
The new Me
Forgets
Birthdays
Dishes
What to say
What to do
All I can do now is repeat
Stories of my past
Like a demented parrot
Who only remembers half of what he has said
What are the chances of a future
Because I feel I have
No… Continue
We had my family over for xmas this year. My dad and his wife, Debbie where first to arrive. Marc brought his family of five through the snow. Even the elusive Casey brought Julie from his current home in Vegas.
Unfortunately, Janet discovered my rearanging of the letters of the Santa stocking holders just before my dad arrived. I did get in one more spelling of Satan that lasted a few hours while Dad was here. It's the least I could do after he took the liberty to gather everybody… Continue
I have heard of American companies being allowed to employ only those staff that are Christian, but this story reported by David Marr on Vinnies in Queensland has me taken aback.
I have had dealings with St Vincent de Paul and like all church organisations there is a bit of infighting however…
In January 2004 an ultimatum was delivered by the society’s diocesan president for Gold Coast, Peter Richards. [Linda Walsh] had until June to become a Catholic, resign her…Continue
i saw an interesting article in the times this morning. i guess there is a rise in "moderate islamic" televangelists and it has a "strong appeal for the youth”
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

My last post contained this quote and I thought I'd explain why I liked it. It reminds me of the way religious people censor their lives so that no contradicting ideas cause them to doubt. It was one of the things that bothered me most growing up. I was very curious about everything and was frustrated repeatedly by my parents taking books out of my hands and telling me they were of… Continue
Unless you live in China you will almost certainly have been subjected to one or more simpering viral emails usually attributing a set of positive or magical characteristics to the christian god. Instead of just being irritated by them I though it might be constructive to rearrange them and send them back into the system.
I received one about math magic as a New Year's greeting from a friend. It was presented in Power Point. I do not have Power Point installed on my system so I took… Continue
I have decided to make 2009 a great year. I am going to be as positive as I can, no matter the situation with which I am faced. Christians I know seem to think atheists are depressed and negative, with the absence of the divine. I think I should do my part to show christians that atheists are more often than not, happy about life, freindly, loving, considerate etc. Not to mention, i know some christians who are unfriendly, negative about everything, and overall depressing. Hopefully people will… Continue
One of the things I think stands in the way of atheism is people’s fear of it, fear of the implications. I know from personal experience that this was one of the things that kept me in the christian faith for as long as I was.
I was having atheistic thoughts a few years before I eventually shed my faith, yet I was scared of these thoughts. I remember lying in bed at night thinking there might not be a god, but… Continue
I wish everyone a prosperous and healthy new year in 2009! I declare 2009 The Year of Enlightenment. It will be the year that humankind of all walks of life will embrace logical and rational thinking, and to final reject all war, in favor of diplomacy and dialogue. "War is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate." From the eternal Marvin Gaye.
I have sent this to over 100 Catholic priests hoping they will quit being priests.
What has happened since the major decline of religion in Europe?
Even in Ireland 160 Irish priests died last year but only nine priests were
ordained. Religious decline in Europe has been very dramatic. Our "U.S.
Ambassador James P. Cain found the first church he and his family went to
was chained & padlocked. The next week they tried a different Lutheran
church,… Continue
I used this concept on two very troubled children last year a boy 14 and a girl 16. getting poor marks, By the end of the school year his report card showed 5 As and 2 Bs, hers was 2 As and 4 Bs. Both are getting along very well and had became very friendly, nice to be with and open. In the USA 4 out of 10 students drop out of school. I have now used it on other kids with equally fantastic results. I goes against the beliefs of most Christians while using what is taught in now very atheist… Continue
