Today's Saturday, and I'm wondering, at random...whatever happened to Mr. Saturn? Nobody loves him, anymore. For centuries, millions of men, women and children prayed fervently to him, staked their hopes and dreams on him, and now- he's reduced to a gas giant planet and a gas giant car and a special day every week, a day without presents. No sacrifices, no blood, no nada.

Same goes for the rest of the week- 8 days a week, we got a god, but ain't nobody praying to any of 'em. Freia… Continue

Bible pounder attempting to be funny...or cute...

Joined Face Book. Joined an atheist group. Got this posting from this guy about how April 1st, okay, April Fools day is the only day that atheist have that equates to say, Xmas. Well, I read it and thought about responding to the clown. Then I read that he'll then have access to others on my "Friends" list.

I thought about it, and decided not to respond to the clown. I figured, "why should this twit bother others like me?" So I didn't respond. Wanted too, but didn't.

Now I could have,… Continue

Darwinian Natural Selection in Today's Society

(Originally posted on my personal blog,

I stand firm with my thoughts on Darwinian Natural Selection. I’m quite sure that it has happened in humans in even recorded history. I think that the technological advances, and forms of entertainment, all have implications of evoluation. Since the dawn of man we’ve been evolving and furthering our thinking.

To better survive in an ever changing… Continue

Sexual Dealing

One of my favorite comedic writers is Chelsea Handler. For those of you who don't know, Chelsea Handler is a standup comedienne, who is a current host of Chelsea Lately on E!. She has written two comedic books: My Horizontal Life: The Collection of One Night Stands and Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea. I have to admit when reading her books (especially Horizontal) that I'm pretty jealous of how open sexually she is as a woman, and she's very human at the same time!

Raised as a… Continue

Lovely Carl Sagan quote

The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what’s true.

The Geek Trio

I really should stay away from Amazon. I spend far too much money on there. Today, my purchases included Geek Love, Geek Logik, and Geek Chic. Those will all go nicely with the "GeeKISSexy" t-shirt I just purchased from - where else? -

Unfounded beliefs

Recently, a reader wrote about their struggles with Christianity. I have been through similar struggles myself, though I have reached a conclusion contrary to that of the former contributor. As I grew older I began to see the Old Testament more as a justification for atrocity than an account chronicling the chosen people of God. Seeking solace in the New Testament left me peering into the heart of my religion, only to find… Continue

End of the semester

For the past week I have:

- written a 20 pg paper for Southern Lit.

- written a 5 pg paper for Tragedy.

- written a 1 1/4 pg, uh, essay?, for Art: Raku.

- finish reading a novel for Southern Lit.

- start doing research on my Thesis, write an outline, a bibliography, meet w/my advisor, write up my essay proposal

- find time to eat/sleep/drink...lots of time for that.

Whenever this Thesis gets me down, I will crank up the music that inspired it:… Continue

Since I'm a senior in high school, I've been getting a lot of stuff from colleges interested in me. Phone calls, mailers, email, DVDs, you get the idea. Usually they just ask how my college search is going, and since I've decided to attend my community college first, the calls have shortened considerably.

I just got a call from Simpson U, a college in I-don't-know-where. The guy on their end asks me casually how I'm doing (this seems to be the most common question). Then he talks a… Continue

Alleged abuse of abducted 'miracle child' poses more questions for council that failed Baby P

More reasons to eliminate religion.

Why are the most abusive, sadistic and evil people are the ones "God" seems to chose to lead his "flock"? Have any of you believers, stop, just for a second, and pay attention to God's judgement? Oh! I know, you guys are to busy believing and praying, with your eyes close, to this so-called God. As a result, you guys fail to recognised all the atrocious crimes his "spiritual" picked leaders are committing. Yes, they all claimed to be chosen… Continue

President George W. Bush

W said in an interview that the Bible is "probably not" literally true.

I'm not surprised, but I find it hilarious the religious right were "stunned" LOL
Anyone with a thinking brain knows the Republicans used them to gain power, but did little for them once they took over. Silly people

Why the label 'atheist' bothers me a little...

A while ago I was talking to some friends and the topic about my position came up and they asked me "What do you believe in?", to which I answered that I don't 'believe', but that I think that evidence should be evaluated and yadda, yadda, yadda (skepticism)... and then, they finished saying "So, you are atheist", to which I responded "I am skeptic, therefore I am atheist". A few months ago, there was a 'Atheist Pride March' (or something around that), and I was telling a contact on… Continue

Isang Mahabang Litanya ng Pagiging Atiyista

I remember wondering when I was a kid why some people have no faith in God. I was about to go home with one of my girl friends when out of the blue I said to her, “I really can’t understand why some people just don’t believe in God. Do they not realize that it is impossible not to believe in God’s existence? Can’t they see that wherever we look we can see the grand design of the Creator?” My friend looked at me and frowned. I think she even said, “Yan ka na naman sa kaiisip mo eh. Isang araw di… Continue

MLK may have understood Christianity’s origins

This link leads to a reproduction of a MLK paper that discusses the influence of other ancient beliefs on the x-ian religion.

I hope you find it informative.

The Concept of ‘Intentional Action’: Knobe, Wittgenstein, and Descriptive Ethics

This is a paper that I wrote in 2008. I will present it at next year's Pacific Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association (APA) in Canada. It's somewhat technical but those who are more philosophically inclined may be interested in checking it out. I take a "Wittgensteinian" approach to analyzing the concept or use of 'intentional action.' The paper focuses on whether it is possible to give a prescriptive account of ethics. In plain English, this is an attempt to answer the… Continue

‘Moral Facts’ and Moral Arguments for the Existence of God

The following is rough articulation of a position I wrote a while back. I"m currently thinking of how to bring it "up to date" with my current reflections, which take a much more subtle understanding of religious belief. Comments are welcome!

Many philosophers, particularly Christian philosophers, are fond of giving rather weak arguments for the existence of God based on a presumption of moral facts. A moral fact is the claim that there is a way things ought to be. In… Continue

Gone with the Wind

Summer day,

leaves, green and vibrant,

the morning dew drips off

serving the thirst of wild geraniums below.

Autumn comes,

and the leaves begin to wither and die,

spectators gather

to admire the beautiful colors.

Winter, the trees are barren,

the leaves have all fallen off,

and have been mulched

to fertilize the now frozen grass for next year.

Spring arrives,

the grass is green and healthy again,

and on… Continue

Space isn't the only Vacuum UPDATE

I've justified, to myself, allowing people to make stupid purchases. I analyzed what my problems with people buying useless pieces of paper and here's what I have come up with. If I were to ask myself the question, “Should it be illegal for people to spend money on useless pieces of paper even if it doesn't hurt me and makes the people feel good? It is their money, should they be free to spend it on whatever junk they'd like?” I have to concede that even if I STRONGLY… Continue

Telemarketing Jehova's Witness

I see the Jehova's Witnesses are getting a bit more timid in their sales strategies. I was rudely disrupted one Saturday morning to a Telemarketing Style Conversion Call to save my non-existent soul not too long ago. By the end of the half-hour conversation I had turned her from a word-for-word bible believer into accepting that evolution is a more likely explanation than the two conflicting creation stories in Genesis, and that primitive nomads likely aren't the best people to get plausible… Continue
