I am off to Australia on Monday. If you have any Aussie friends in Sydney, Brisbane, Tasmania or Melbourne, let them know I'll be in their area sometime in Feb. Now I have to get back to studying. I am trying to learn enough Aussie to be able to say "hi" and "bye" and "gooday mate" properly. I have been told that the Queenslanders are a unique breed. I'll just have to see for myself.

One of those groups that are excluded by the AFA is Buddhists. As a Buddhist I must respond to this distortion of atheism for their own agenda and show that the AFA is not in fact an atheist… Continue

In an emotional display, Kevin Rudd PM told the story of a couple that he knew personally, who died tragically whilst doing a good deed, to the Australian Christian Lobby’s annual conference in Canberra. Allan Taylor, the husband, was a school chaplain. Rudd intends to give $42.8mil in funding to the National School Chaplaincy program which was due to end late 2010.

Governer de Kretser talked to Victoria's Police Chaplains' Annual Conference about ethics and religion.

Victoria's Governor spoke to the annual conference of Police Chaplains and said a lot of nonsense unfortunately. First he said that because church attendance is declining we should think of teaching ethics in schools and other educational institutions. Well I'm all in favour of teaching ethics but what does it have to do with declining church attendance?

Church attendance in Australia is about 7.5% and falling. A figure I'm very proud of. It makes Australia one of the most secular… Continue

Submissions like the one from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Australia provide a vivid example of why Australia needs a charter of human rights which is based on mature forms of moral reasoning rather than self-preserving ideologies.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Australia argues that their unique form of Christianity should be forced on all Australians because

1. Australia was… Continue

Aussies Complete First Major Political Project for AN

Over the past three months, Australian members of Atheist Nexus have been working on a major submission to Australia's Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. Last year, the Commission called for public submissions on a discussion paper entitled, "Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st Century". The last study of this kind was conducted in 1998 and attracted input from many of Australia's leading atheist, humanist and rationalist groups.

We have been pleased to add our… Continue
