Why are there so many Catholic priests who molest little children, especially boys, all around the world?
I'll start a list:
1. Their religion forbids them to marry or engage in sexual activity. They are to be celibate for life, or risk losing their careers and livelihood and dignity. Is this not already a sick act? It is unnatural and inhuman to forbid someone from EVER engaging in any sexual activity for fear of burning forever in hell.… Continue

Crazy me. Though atheist I may be, I like to sing Catholic songs on the weekend. It drives my family crazy because they suck. But that's kinda why I like them so much! I remember back in the day when we were finally allowed to sing the Protestant hymn "Amazing Grace" we shouted a great "Hallelujah." Actually it was sort of a whispered, "It's about time."
Any former Catholics remember the song "We are the Light of the World" by Jean Greif ? (I have to give the person… Continue

The Roman Catholic Church is still a powerful institution, but its influence and relative weight in the world have been steadily diminishing in the last 100 years or so. This is not strange if one considers that religion in general has lost much of its power in all advanced countries: separation of church and state, religious freedom and the spread of education and science have made people more critical, freethinking or skeptical.
Catholics seemed more resilient at first, but this was only… Continue

Did anybody watch the Intelligence Squared debate, on the BBC News channel, yesterday? There's a video of Christopher Hitchens at the debate, below, at the bottom of this post. The Catholics got trounced by the atheists. I’ve been waiting for the transcript but, so far, none has materialized. So I gathered the stats instead.
Before I continue, I should describe the Intelligence Squared debate format. Each debate has a proposition. In this case, the proposition is: “The Catholic Church… Continue

From Not My God
Here in the Not My God penthouse, I focus on stories of atheists that are particularly difficult and moving for the purposes of illustration and because this obviously makes for a more interesting book. So if anyone out there thinks I cherry-pick the extremes, yes, I am, but that’s sort of the point.
I found this story on Dawkins’s Converts Corner.
“For many years I was a victim of… Continue

The natural realm is the universe and everything in it. The supernatural realm is, by definition, outside the natural realm, so nobody knows, or can
know, anything whatsoever about the supernatural. The natural realm is physical; evidence for it is literally everywhere. The supernatural realm is pure conjecture and absolutely unsupported by physical evidence of any kind. The supernatural is, therefor, not scientifically testable.
However, supernatural claims… Continue

Hopefully this will be the first of many.
So my parents have taken to a different tactic to get me to go to church. Either I go to church or I have to spend every Sunday explaining to them why I don't believe god exists. It's not is so many words, but that's essentially what's going on.
I don't mind it so much, I usually think about tits for an hour or something like that but the inevitable always happens and some bullshit falling out of the priest's mouth manages to flick… Continue

Several months ago, we witnessed a tragic spectacle in the news: a nine-year old Brazilian girl was raped, became pregnant, and got an abortion…and the Brazilian Catholic church responded by excommunicating all the participants. One cleric in Rome, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, said the church had been insensitive,
(at the very minimum) but no one in the hierarchy stepped forward to outright condemn the heartlessness of the church's stance and the unfairness of the policy.

More evidence, as if it were needed, of the way religion likes to think itself inclusive but is anything but comes to us in a report
on the Ekklesia website.
A girl wanted to get into a Christian “faith” school in Wrexham, UK. But she was the wrong kind of Christian, so couldn’t.
It’s called the St Joseph's Catholic and Anglican School, but Aston Padley (11) is not from an Anglican or Catholic family.

A priest stole $900,000
from his church, some of it to pay off a kid he touched, and he seems to only be facing charges for stealing. Am I wrong about this? Also, is the catholic church turning in thieves but asking child molester's to move to a new city?

Okay... So.. I think Penn Jillette is one of the more brilliant people on this planet. I loved the Bullshit series.. and now he has a series on YouTube called "Penn Says"... you should check it out..
One of his "Penn Says" posts is about some Cardinal guy that insinuates "Atheists are less than human"... basically because they dont have god in their lives.
Their video debate has been posted.

Today's story on the Irish children's work schools is great confirmation of my contention that God Viruses always protect their vectors. See this link:
Those of you who have read my book will clearly see the virus at work in this article. This went on from the 1930's till at least the 1990's and Catholic authorities knew it in detail, but continued to protect the vectors. These people will really… Continue

We have two and maybe three groups forming for recovering from religion. We would like to spread the word and get at least a dozen groups going over the next month or so. If you are interested in facilitating a group in your area, take a look at the website, guidelines and other resources and let me know. I will help you get started. www.recoveringreligionists.com

I just announced today the Recovering from Religion initiative. See the video announcement on my channel on youtube (damon132) and this website
. I had hardly posted the video and I had several people commenting and contacting me. That is so encouraging. What is needed are some people across the country (or world) to become facilitators of a group in your area. Here is the meetup page we… Continue

In the debate over the virus metaphor, many people miss the clear parallels between the human brain and a computer. While many have no problem with the notion that computers can be infected with a metaphorical "virus", it seems that the line is drawn when the human brain is involved. There is abundant evidence that biological viruses can infect and take control of organic brains - controlling them much as a computer virus does. What makes us so resistant to the notion that ideas can do the same… Continue

As I travel making presentations on my book, inevitably several people want their copy autographed and want to tell me the story of how they escaped religion. The stories are at once fascinating and heart rending. It has been a joke for decades among former Catholics that they are recovering Catholics. It generally meant that they were actively trying to get over the programming and brainwashing in guilt and sexual repression taught in Catholic schools and churches. I would suggest a slightly… Continue

More reasons to get rid of religion
It has always been asserted that illicit sex has been going on among the religious body of the Catholic Church. Besides the known priest sexual abuse of young boys, charges of Nuns having sex with priest, priest having sex with priest and Nuns having sex with Nuns have always been put forth. Are these charges real or just allegations? Well, a former Nun tells her story, “which details illicit relationships, sexual harassment and bullying… Continue

Here is a good one, according to the Vatican man and women commit different sins.
“Men are more likely to commit lustful sins while women are led down the path of pride, according to a Vatican report carried out by the Pope's personal theologian.”
Does that mean there is different intensity of punishment and separate sections for the genders in "Hell"?

first, I don't get it when people who, in most cases, know what they crazy, insane religion is about, yet complain when these moronic religious laws touches their lives.
Take the case of this Catholic school teacher for example, loosing her livelihood for marrying a divorced man.
"She told the San Antonio Express-News that the firing took some of the joy out of the preparations for the marriage."
"I couldn't get out of bed. It's just been this cloud.… Continue
