Seriously, that the Vatican wouldn’t want to cooperate with investigations regarding sex abuse is no news. But the Wikileaks cables are one of the most concrete pieces of evidence (perhaps the most concrete) that we have about the Vatican’s hypocrisy and how unwilling Ratzinger and his minions are to… Continue

Growing fast and coming in third world wide is the section of non-adherents or unbelievers. This of course would be the most diverse group of all. I would also argue the only naturally occurring group that a person is able to reach without any outside influence. That is to say that being a unbeliever takes no more effort than just looking at how the world operates and rejecting what ever the dominate system of belief is.
As of this time, I am not aware of what could… Continue

But as I have said before, since non-adherents do not have a dogma we really have no need to meet together or organize. But I have a feeling Continue
that will change as we fight through the courts to return our nation to
the secular nation that it was founded as. People seem to be tiring of
the rules and control of dogma and want to be good peaceful people
living with one another. Helping out where we can and staying out of the
way when we…

Here's two, from Fundies Say the Darndest Things, http://www.fstdt.com
that didn't make the list:
Darwinism has long ago been shown to be pure mythology. It's only supporters are the phoney profs that use it as a vehicle for dumbing down the naive student population and applying for federal grants, AND gullible followers. Tell me, when's the… Continue

Don't you love it when you get to see mainstream Christian's true colors? Don't you feel good to see that those who brag about loving the neighbor are just as, or even more bigoted than the average person? Isn't it reassuring that we are in the right path?
So, some days ago, this billboard was put up:…

I've always been fascinated by born-agains. They usually are sad people, who live a miserable life and hate themselves. They want to make a change to their life, but never have the motivation to do it themselves. Once they find out about this Christ character, that like a genie he can wave a magic wand and wipe away all the wrong things they did in their lives by just accepting him as there personal 'savior' they can feel guilt free. Murderer? Cheated on your husband? Drunk and beat your kids… Continue

I've had it! I sit up here in Canada watching my neighbor to the south as slowly, methodically, the far religious right creeps ever deeper into their government (local, state and federal - witness the Republicans & the Bush years), attempt to re-write history (as is currently happening in the… Continue

If you've read my info section, you'll know that I have to be careful about content I put on Facebook. I go to a bible college and it wouldn't be enough to delete all the staff (I already had when they asked me to take my theology off of it) - I have to be careful with what I say around most of my friends (apparently Facebook friends of mine reported my 'heretical beliefs' to the dean of students). It should go without saying that I know all about religious manipulation.

I'm afraid my IM discussions with my Christian coworker have gone about as far as they're likely to go. Last night, the Christian started making liberal use of entirely capitalized sentences and then turned openly conceited. It seems he's reached the end of his patience.
One of our primary points of contention, and the one we always came back to was whether or not thoughts arise from purely physical processes. I know little about neuroscience, so it was a difficult subject for me to… Continue

A couple days ago I came across the following question on Yahoo! Answers
. Bethany wrote:
My 17 year old son has been very secretive with me lately, recently he has started to refuse to go to church with the family and tonight when I was going through his room I found a magazine with naked men in it. He obviously has a girlfriend that he is hiding from me that brought that magazine into my home… Continue

From time to time, you may hear certain far right elected officials (Michelle Bachmann, for instance) warn about the coming "New World Order"
. It's been a common conspiracy theory amongst conservative Christians since the 1990s, and it's become an essential component of the popular end times theology that many Christians draw from a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelations. In short, NWO conspiracy theorists… Continue

Today, PZ Myers posted a point by point rebuttal
to a recent piece
on Ken Ham's blog. If you don't know who he is, Ken Ham is the fundamental Christian who founded Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum in Kentucky, both of which insist on a literal interpretation of the Bible.
Anyway, Ham's… Continue

Of course, there can't be a natural disaster anywhere without Pat Robertson making up reasons why it's punishment from God. Here's what he said this morning on The 700 Club

1. - Why is Atheism such a bad thing? Atheists: never burned others at the stake, never started/engaged in a Crusade and just want to be left alone for the most part.
However with the threat of FORCED CONVERSION
, anyone would be pissed and come out swinging. Likewise, do you think we would just allow you to publicly deface our belief and ESPECIALLY with such non-sense as you, Kirk Cameron, have presented as "fact"
? Why do Extremists think Atheism is such a threat to their… Continue

believe that without God, Atheists have no morality, and therefore the Root of All Evil.
Really? Do they believe that Atheists are immoral? Well, Let's take a look at the Christians
Once upon a time, there was a man, about 5' 6". He lead a revolution for the sake of his people, with the extinction of the old monarchy. He later crowned himself 'Emperor' and lead a war, which his empire almost stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to… Continue

I've been inactive for a bit. Atheism sort of took a back seat for a bit. I did some political stuff, tried to keep up with life, etc. Things have quieted down now.
I decorated for the holidays. I love Christmas. For me it has nothing to do with religion, naturally. It's more of a beginning as the days start getting longer again. It's the light returning and the chance to get things right. It's happiness and light, feasting and drinking. My house is always decorated with plenty of… Continue

Of all the insults, of all the absurdities and smug assertions of superiority, this one
will always have a special place in my memories. This post, my friends, takes the cake.
I was arguing with somebody on Facebook, and she got so fed up she left in a huff. As is sometimes the case with online debaters who get really worked up about a debate they're in, she set her husband on me.… Continue
