It's Not The Hatfield and The McCoys...But It's Pretty Close

You know, I love mug shots where the perps have big grins on their faces. Specifically, the cat ate the canary kind of look. This week’s headlines managed to present one that couldn’t be missed, and dare I say, I think there are even twinkles in the eyes of these men. In the…

It's Either "One Nation Under God" Or Bite My Ass And Leave

Humanity can be so obstinate when it finds a cause to support. I deal with this stubborn natured characteristic all the time whenever I discuss politics, religion, or economics with the locals in my current home town. In particular, my next door neighbor Chuck epitomizes the title of this article in the very literal sense. Yes, this man has said to me…

Godwinks or Hoodwinked?

Have you heard about Godwinks yet?

They are new in the “feel good” style media line up lately. I was introduced to these once a month motivational segments while at work the other morning when one of our clerks went on her break, tuning in to the ever popular wine drinking duo of Kathy Lee and Hoda on the Today show. This…

God is the Shit!

A few years ago I realized that most Christians don't even know the Ten Commandments, so in an effort to learn them myself so that I may feel the smug sense of self-importance that many Christians feel, I came up with the following mnemonic to to aid me in my studies. I hope this helps a few of you learn them as well.

1 - I am The Shit. Put no other shit before me.

2 - Don't make shit look like The Shit.

3 - Don't call other shit The Shit.

4 - Treat…

Playing Safe: Belief in God, Due To the Possibility One May Exist (Pascal's Wager) is Idiotic! Why?

This is still the most common excuse I get from agnostics and even some non-church going Christians.

They Don't Want To Be Wrong about God's Existence, so they are playing it safe, hoping that if there is really a God and an afterlife, they will be in for a place in Heaven.

They are thus living an Irrational Delusion.

For starters, how do they know that they are worshiping or believing in the correct God, there are hundreds (presently worshiped) and thousands of…

According to the Bible, God drowns, kills, slaughters, genocides, stones, burns, mauls, rapes, crushes, ....

There is plenty of evil in “the Good Book,” but here are some highlights:

1. God drowns the whole earth.

In Genesis 7:21-23, God drowns the entire population of the earth: men, women, children, fetuses, and perhaps unicorns. Only a single family survives. In …

Do Your Best And God Will Do The Rest

Quotation-Leo-Tolstoy-sacrifice-vanity-Meetville-Quotes-138006

For many, many years, I have always found an unending fount of devilish giggles whenever I read sappy church signs. You know, the ones that are thought up by the honorary witty member of the church congregation that plays on puns, abuses homophones, and loves to dabble in sappy poetry attempts. What better way to market a deity than…

Is this a step toward reason?

I read this article in today's news and couldn't help but feel positive. Surely it isn't just another way of putting out the "Christian Message", at least I hope it isn't.

Local News Ohio physicist, minister debate existence of God

June 21, 2014 09:19 EDT CANTON, Ohio (AP) -- A northeast Ohio church is grappling head-on with a fundamental question: Does God exist? The Northwest Church of Christ in Canton is hosting a debate on the topic Saturday night that is…

Realization

REALIZATION

One day I realized just why religious people, or that fraction of “Believers” hate atheists, is that they are literally scared of us.

They are simply afraid that their beliefs will be shown to be false.

And with that, the made up afterlife will not be there for them.

There is no great beyond.

There isn’t a “higher order” or that they are the “Chosen” of the all mighty.

Their lives are, at least in their eyes, limited, or…

The Battle for Zachary's Brain, IX; "Can I show that to Daddy?"

There is nothing that is too obvious of an absurdity to be firmly planted in the human head as long as you begin to instill before the age of five by constantly repeating it with an air of great seriousness.

– Arthur Schopenhauer

Followers of the riveting “Zachary’s Brain” series of posts will know that the narrative is not a Gothic horror tale…but something that is just as disturbing: resisting the religious programming of a child.

His step-mother,…

Say NO to "Noah"

Back in the day, a trip to my grandparents' row home in South Philly, for Passover or the Jewish New Year, was preceded by a family movie in Center City.  The theaters were huge and ornate -- not at all like your bare-bones cineplex; the movies were usually Biblical and always accompanied by chocolate covered cherries.

Of course, we saw Charlton Heston as Moses.  I think Ben-Hur got sneaked in there, as well as Israeli-themed movies like the heart-rending Exodus,…

A New Snippet From "Christ's Rebellion"

The trip to Capernum had become disastrous. Looking over his shoulder beyond the massive crowd of would be students and desperately ill citizens who had traveled many miles to just touch Jesus’ robes, Judas saw a small detachment of town guards waiting for them. These…

Refresher Course In Work Place Prosyletizing

Over the course of the past two weeks, I have undergone training courses at my new employer's office. Typically, you get to meet everyone you will be working with, and I had a couple days of shadow training. Essentially, I was riding along side my trainer, watching how she…

Science on God

http://tonyjordan37814.blogspot.com/2014/02/science-on-god.html

Scientists such as Victor Stenger et al., hold that the existence of a God like that worshipped by the big three monotheisms (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), can be disproved. These men point out certain known facts about these gods. It is well known, for example, that in the Hebrew Scriptures, the Christian Old and New Testaments, and…

What Am I: An Apatheist!

"It is very important not to mistake hemlock for parsley; but not at all so to believe or not in God." Denis Diderot [i]

One of my sons asked me if I was a nonbeliever and of course I asked, "a nonbeliever in what?" I was not trying to be flippant, but there are…

Book Review of "All God's Mistakes"

"All God's Mistakes" by Charles L. Bosk, is an interesting read if for no other reason than the book's title. The book is a piece of research dealing with birth anomalies from the stand point of the bearer of bad news. Speaking of his research, Bosk details the often difficult decisions that confront parents of…

If Christ Was God (By Permission of Andrew of Philosophical Atheism)

If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future.

Before Him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted.

He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women would languish in…

A Hypothetical Interview with the God of the Bible

http://tonyjordan37814.blogspot.com/

Interviewer: Hello God, glad to have you with us. How are you feeling today ?

God: Well, you know, I change not, and there is no shadow of turning in me.

Interviewer: That brings to mind a question that we all would like to know. Why were you so violent and bloodthirsty in the Old Testament of the Bible ? And was your mindset any different in…
