There are More Persons in this Conversation than are Dreamed of in Your Philosophy!

“I don’t believe in atheists.” That’s a phrase I’ve been seeing a lot lately. It passes for clever in apologetics blogs and it helps many a drive-by tweeter to troll the atheist hashtags. I somehow doubt the majority of these people are making references to the Chris Hedges book from 2008, but who knows how the meme rolls. The…

Gershwin Got It Right

Ira and George Gershwin had it right in the stage play "Porgy and Bess," which is set in an imaginary town in South Carolina. In the play, Porgy sings "I Got Plenty of Nothing." The Gershwin's got it right with that tune as The…

My Favorite Documentary On Religion: Bill Maher's Religulous

I'm a fan of Bill Maher.

Even though he does come across occasionally as too much of a fundamentalist.

But, this documentary shows him playing a fairly even handed, rational role in investigating Religion.

Enjoy!

He should have said, not today Satan

Satan, our favorite invisible friend, has been up to his old tricks. According to Freethought Today, Alexander G. Garcia of Middleton, Idaho was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for molesting a 12-year-old girl in the Nampa Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was a deacon. Garcia said that Satan made him take the young girl into the storage room in July 2013. He was also ordered to pay a $5,000 civil penalty and more than $3,000 in fines. Satan has not…

Religions: My New Definition: Hijackers Of Childhood/Atheistic Wonderment Of Everything For Dubious Agendas.

During our early childhood years as young Atheists (Implicit Atheism, no knowledge nor care about Gods) most of us had an overwhelming wonderment for absolutely everything, I spent my childhood examining everything I could find and wondered how it all worked and was related to myself, if given a present involving technology, within two days it would be in pieces as I investigated what made it move or make noises, blow air, etc....

This wonderment followed me into my early teens and…

What Am I: An Apatheist!

"It is very important not to mistake hemlock for parsley; but not at all so to believe or not in God." Denis Diderot [i]

One of my sons asked me if I was a nonbeliever and of course I asked, "a nonbeliever in what?" I was not trying to be flippant, but there are…

Life and Death: Unreal Expectations

It is with some trepidation that I write this article because the death of a child is probably the worst thing that can ever happen to a parent. The case of Jahi McMath who was declared brain dead after a "routine" tonsillectomy" made headlines after her parents refused to allow doctors to shut down the ventilator keep her…

If you can't do your job, due to your religion, should you have the job???

I was standing in the check-out line at the local Walmart (in Central City,Ky) when the line was stopped.  The cashier refused to check the lady ahead of me because she was buying beer.   Me, being me, asked what the problem was? The clerk said she couldn't scan the beer because "It"s against my religious convictions".  So the lady with the beer, and I, had to wait until a manager was called up to scan the beer onto the ticket.

I laughed about it.  It's so outlandish!  So, the…

Anselm (of Canterbury) & Thomas Aquinas, Now Just Amusing Naive Loonies?

Catholics and some Protestant Christian groups still quote and stand by the writings of these two , who were once considered wise men, but forget that in worldly knowledge and rationality, they can be beaten now by the average intelligent ten year old, in both knowledge and wisdom.

For Thomas Aquinas:

An insight on why I criticize Religion, and anything that's associated with it.

I don't agree to religion. It proves to be a great hindrance for anyone who would like to make strides in progressing forward.

If you think that you need to belief in a deity and a constructed set of beliefs passed down from history to pave you a path for self-control, then you're one of those people very frail of mind...something that you straight-away deny from the very start.

Religion can and will be criticized for any problems and wrongs that it contains. To consider it as…

"Gut Feeling" or "Intuition" is a well developed open-minded connection with one's subconscious, the "God" experience

I don't believe that "Gut Feeling" is exclusively highly developed among persons without a formal education in science. There are many examples of self-educated persons who have a highly developed sense of direction that is not consciously derived.  In fact, I think a person educated in science, who is also a free thinker, will have an even higher developed and more sharpened "Gut Feeling".  The label may be the more eloquent "Intuition" or "ESP".

In the same way that you may…

19 Year Old Tunisian Female Activist 'Amina Tyler' Reported Missing and threatened by Islamist Cleric after posing topless as a sign of protest for women's Freedom.

19 year old Tunisian Amina Tyler, posted a topless photographs of herself on an International Feminist Activist Group FEMEN which had the slogan “my body belongs to me, and is not the source of anyone's honour” as a sign of protest for the freedom and rights of women in Tunisia, which itself is in a struggle for a survival of its own freedom.

This has already caught the attention of Islamist cleric Adel Almi, president of Al-Jamia Al-Li-Wassatia Tawia Wal-Islah, there in Tunisia, who…

Wealth, treasure and thrift in the Bible

So, I listened to a little bit of Dave Ramsey today on talk radio because, well, conservative talk is about the only option in East Tennessee, and I usually prefer talk with which I disagree compared with bad pop and worse rock. If you don't know who Dave Ramsey is, he's…

The Answer is Never Magic: Book Review

I just finished reading The Answer is Never Magic by Robert S. Porter and found it interesting. It is written as a continual conversation between an atheist and a variety of theists that seeks to examine subjects like faith, forgiveness and punishment by a forgiving God.…

Should Atheists support other problems with religion and humanity besides just the lack of proof for god?

I was listening to the Godless Bitches podcast.

Should Atheists support other problems with religion and humanity besides just the lack of proof for god?

In my opinion every Atheist should at least think about being tolerant of everything that the churches exclude. L.B.G.T. woman's rights civil rights pollution etc. Or they have not fully thought out why they are atheists in the first place, yet. Being so…
