“There is nothing that is too obvious of an absurdity to be
firmly planted in the human head as long as you begin to
instill before the age of five by constantly repeating it
with an air of great seriousness.”
-- Arthur Schopenhauer

It’s Father’s Day, and to all my readers out there fortunate enough to be a dad, enjoy your day of recognition. Savor your specially made breakfast, awkwardly drawn markered portraits on construction paper, and totally needed extra set of screw drivers or packs of batteries. It’s a day of days for you during…Continue
What do you do as an atheist when a child asks about gOD?
I think authenticity with children is best, just like all people. I see this the same as when a child asks about gay.
What I do is simply say what I think not that it is how everyone else sees things. I am a more extreme atheist then most atheists and I tell them that to. I say I am atheist reject all gods as fake and reject all religions as untrue as well. I say this is only how I see it others are…Continue

The "Obey" imperative demeans both bride and groom. Any man who chooses to marry a woman willing obey means he has a wife and their children dependent on him.
If he wants her to stay home with the kids and can afford to earn the necessary amount to maintain a household, then the mother may choose to stay home. If it is an imperative, the relationship suffers.
If she wishes to stay home with the children, then that meets both partners' needs.
If he can't earn enough to…Continue
Here is a video showing what religious education and home schooling creates.
Some of you may find this very scary.
Education that emphasises Rational Critical Thinking, should be mandatory for all children.
Regardless of their parent's religion.
Don't you agree?
Have you ever walked across the ice on a frozen lake and begin to see small cracks form under your feet? The cracks become bigger, making a pretty sound ... until you realize that the ice is not going to hold you and you have to change direction, and really fast or tragedy will occur?
That is what it was like for me when I believed in god and Jesus. I taught and was superintendent of Sunday schools, belonged to and held leadership roles in the women's bible study groups and outreach…Continue
This weekend was a personal test for my parenting. As an atheist parent, I am pretty adamant in presenting both sides of an argument and using context when discussing religious belief with my kids. The only confirmation of how fair of a job I am doing is when the kids end up in awkward…Continue
A major immigrant crisis is brewing along the Mexico-US border where thousands of children are crossing without their parents, fleeing what seems like gang warfare. According to some estimates, nearly 70,000 people have died recently in Mexico as a result of drug-related conflict. While we must not diminish the importance of US foreign…Continue
Have you all checked out "Awkward Moments Children's Bible" yet? It's an Amazon award-winning book and concept. No, I don't own shares of this book or are related to it's creators but I really, really LOVE the whole concept asnd I often share the illustrations on my Facebook page. I'd like to see the author put the art+verse on the backs of T-shirts (large design so easily read) as I'd proudly wear that in public to get people to think - I'd even purposedly stand in lines and position myself…Continue

“If God wants us to do a thing he should make his wishes sufficiently clear. Sensible people will wait till he has done this before paying much attention to him.”
“I cannot believe in a God who has neither humor nor common sense.”

I have heard it said that the Human Race is living at the bottom of an ocean of germs,
bacteria and virus's. The only thing that has allowed us to survive to today is because
our ancient ancestors had evolved an immune system that has the ability to fight off the
majority of these diseases.
But, if the Human Race does not allow the immune system to do its job, we will slowly
lose it and become dependant upon medicine. That is not good.
To retain a good…

My wife and I both work and we have a two year old kid. This takes up a lot of my time so lots can happen in this world of ours without my noticing it. Like natural disasters, revolutions, whole continents disappearing into the sea and Bill 13, which is making its way through the legislature in…Continue

When my son came home a few days ago and announced, "Charlie's* an atheist like me!", I felt my chest tighten. After a deep breath, we had a short discussion about personal beliefs and why some people might get upset with him if their beliefs are different from his and then I reminded him that he is still learning and suggested he might want to hold off…Continue
