Last night I went to my fridge to get some soy milk for my coffee (lactose doesn't agree with me) and I noticed a 1,000,000 dollar bill fridge-magneted to the door with all the other stuff. I had put it there last summer after I found it while walking in the park near the river at the bottom of our street. Young Christians were wandering the park with…Continue
This is my very first post on here so be very, very kind. Maybe even sycophantic if you have it in you… ;-)
I've decided to post this in order to avoid having a drawn out and painful discussion with the original author of a Christian apology which, like arguing with a drunk teenager, is largely pointless and always entirely depressing.
The post in question was from someone called Templestream, a guy who was trolling on Atheist Revolution. His theory was the typical drivel and…Continue
Once you've accepted Jesus into your heart, your next step is showing your obedience and symbolizing your rebirth through baptism. The Christian denominations in which I grew up believed that baptism was only valid as a personal decision. Some denominations practice infant baptism or sprinkling, but in the context of what I was taught that practice seems to have no significance whatsoever (except to…Continue

Getting saved through Jesus Christ and receiving the Holy Spirit sounds like it would be a really big deal. I mean, the sheer mechanics of opening up one's heart and having the Holy Spirit move in like a college kid moving into the dorms is difficult to wrap your head around. Oddly enough, Christians seem to think it requires nothing more than the ability to repeat phrases told to you by another person. This applies mainly to children who are too young to formulate a sentence based on the…Continue
I was indoctrinated into Protestant Christianity from birth and accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior at the ripe old age of four. I don't remember much about my childhood but I still remember that evening and the place of worship in Panama we called "The Home." It wasn't a formal church and I imagine it was more like what you would have seen in the Apostle Paul's day where believers gathered in homes to praise god together through song and prayer.
The Home was situated either…Continue

Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, Second Chapter of Acts, John Fischer, The Way, Oak Ridge Boys, Elvis, "Gospel," holy hymns, church choirs, "sacred" music, Young Life Songs and Creations spiral songbook. . .it was, and is, an endless composition of brain-saturation. I listened to countless hours of it, went to concerts, bought the albums, met some of the "artists" like Stonehill, Fischer, Barry McGuire, Yohann Anderson and others. Believe it or not, I once sang in an 8000-voice…Continue
As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice. ...And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly, it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian…Continue
After going through a dramatic break-up, a cousin of mine got in touch with me, and dropped some, much to my surprise, encouraging words of wisdom. The next day, this cousin sent me one of those texts that requires you to message 10 or so other people. It was something like "Deny your Heavenly Father Which is in Heaven, and He too will Deny You...Send this message to blah blah blah." I'm thinking how wise this cousin is, and how I'd probably stay in contact with her from now on because she…Continue
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THIS!! I NEED FEEDBACK ON MY ATHEIST MEMOIRE IN PROGRESS!!
From time to time memories of my former life as a Protestant Christian come back. Some of them are pleasant, some unpleasant, others simply perplexing.
There is one that came to mind today that is still perplexing to this day.
Years ago, I had decided to confirm myself into the church, ironically, this was only a year before my dramatic…Continue
