Another wacky bunch is going around preaching the world will end this year. Here's the link

I wonder if they are willing to give me all their money and assets on May 20th?

Should I have been living in Iran for Valentine's day?

Every year I either forget Valentine's day OR i spend too much money for nonsense.

I don't normally believe in special days to do special things. I rather prefer normal days to do special things. But tell that to a woman.

So while i spent some 40 Euros getting the usual "i love you" evidence ... flowers, chocolate etc. and spend some extra time preparing ... cleaning up the house, installing ambient light, preparing the couch and the bed, telling the kids to quarrel NOW and keep quiet… Continue

The Discovery Institute and Human Exceptionalism

First Things, "published by The Institute on Religion and Public Life, an interreligious, nonpartisan research and education institute whose purpose is to advance a religiously informed public philosophy for the ordering of society," has come out squarely against bestiality and science fiction books that deal with such issues. Given that…

Observation and thoughts derived from the book The God Delusion: Chapter 10, Dawkins wrote the statement that 96 percent of the population of the United States thinks that they will survive their own death. If one was to say that should I jump off this 12 story building unaided, after I hit the bottom of the pavement, I will survive that fall. Any reasonable person would have no other recourse but to find the nearest phone and call 911 for emergency services. Because my statement would…

I Think Therefore I Am: Not The First Of Three Valid And True Axioms

The first bit of awareness is not that you are thinking. It is of something. Something in reality. You sense first, then you think. It takes a multitude of sensations before you can have thought, or the manipulation and integration of concepts. As such, the very first statement, if you will, or thought you can make or the base of all cognition, epistemology and therefore philosophy is not 'I think therefore I am', but 'there is something I am aware of'. This entails an existent with identity… Continue

Socialism Sucks!

Socialism, or collectivism, is a consequence of a more fundamental philosophical mistake. This mistake is the opinion that you do not have a moral right to your own life, that you owe part of your life to others. This idea is called altruism, which is mistakenly thought to be a moral position. Well, the principle of altruism, if you wish to actually think about it, is one of self-sacrifice, that it is moral to sacrifice your life to others. This should be clearly distinguished from benevolence,… Continue

Don't take heaven away from me!

An imaginary interaction with my mother in which she poses the point "I'm at the end of my life when I must look forward to meeting my maker and going to heaven, and you want to take that away from me?". In my mind I feel her agony at the thought of it all being a lie. I know this pain because I've felt it myself. It's not all that dissimilar from the feeling I had when my father came clean about Santa Claus. It's a let down to know it was just a big scam.

In my mind I attempt to… Continue

Joel Olsteen's representative explains admission price.

This afternoon I was contacted by Andrea from Lakewood Church. The Houston Megachurch that Olsteen leads. When I asked her about the cost of the ticket. She explained that it covered the cost of paying

for the Scottrade Center employees and various things such as that. I tried to express my view that if this is a message that is good for everyone to hear that provision should be made for making the event

free. Andrea explained that they used to have free attendance at these events…

The Hell With Atheists After the Foxholes

Many people say, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” As a practical matter this obviously isn’t the case, but the Army’s new Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program (CSFP)…

Chapter Two; MY MORMON MISSION part five

When I recently visited a Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints in Ponca City, Oklahoma, this was shown not to be the case. To give a little background, before I proceed, would be helpful. While I was serving in the Army, one of my roommate’s was a Mormon from Idaho. I think our commanding Sargent thought it would be a “good” idea to put the more outspoken religious believers together to make sure they wouldn't mess with the men that wanted to go out, party and have girlfriends, while…

Why atheist will lose the war against religion.

I have been what I call a devoted and or a committed atheist for about 10 years now. After getting free from the repression of the “Steve Abrams” family of Kansas. Yes, the Steve Abrams that was on the Kansas State Board of Education that thought evolution wasn't such a good thing to teach in science classes in public school. So I have seen a few things change in the past few years in my life and in the current cultural discussion. I may go into that later but…

Be Good For Goodness' Sake

Holy cow — the atheists are proselytizing! I unveil Connecticut Valley Atheists' latest offering to the Vernon Green and demonstrate how the myths of religion and Santa Claus teach believers to behave in order to earn a reward, while atheism offers the only path to true, unrewarded morality in this week's CVA Vlog.…

National Day of Prayer spreading like a virus to other countries

Not sure how sharing a candy bar makes you want to have a Prayer Day, but now it's in place in the Federated States of Micronesia, who has had a close tie with the US since World War II, and is very religious, although not as diverse as the US (Roman Catholic 50%, Protestant 47%, other 3%).

"[President] Mori explained he was inspired to create this day for FSM after attending the 2007 Annual National Prayer Breakfast at the White House in…
