Winter Solstice offers a time to look back on the past year to acknowledge my challenges and the things I chose to do to solve those problems. This recent past year was a very hard one for me with the death of my oldest son, Cary, a victim of cancer at the young age of 53 years and one month. This loss turned out to be harder on me than I imagined. Thankfully, Craig and Laura and their families walked these dark days with me.
After wallowing in that pain I turn my attention to the… Continue

Jesus didn’t approve homosexuality.
Jesus take the wheel.
Jesus is Lord!
Y’all need Jesus!
Jesus on stationery. Continue
Jesus on itty bitty gold crosses dangling from your mom’s neck.

I'd just rang the door bell of the rather palatial corner lot's brick coated home a few seconds previous when I heard an elderly voice sounding rather enigmatic and enthusiastic,…

In recent years there has been increased hostility against sexual minorities in Russia. Attempts to celebrate an annual Pride Parade have been treated with the same suspicion that other countries treat terrorism and now a "non-traditional relationships propaganda" bill has passed, which will criminalize any positive references to homosexuality and any expression of gay-friendliness.
A recent push by global human rights organizations for a boycott of the Russian Olympics not… Continue

Here you are. You have been invited to a family, political or even social gathering where you share, with a more or less familiar crowd, food, drinks and laughters. Whatever the occasion is, you let yourself being engaged in economic, political and societal debates with the people around you enjoying at every single opposition the opportunity to live and evolve in a country where free speech prevails...And here it comes, the cold and alienating call for prayer. Whoever you are,… Continue

I want to start out by saying thank you to all the friend requests and the warm welcome I have received since joining Atheist Nexus. I do have a page on Think Atheist and I did notice the vast differences between the two sites right away! I look forward to meeting more atheists on the interwebs, and possibly meeting more atheists in Michigan. I am apart of the Mid-Michigan Atheists and Humanists, atleast as of last sunday, and have yet to venture to Grand Rapids to visit the CFI. I currently… Continue

Does atheism define you?
Absolutely not. Atheism doesn't reflect something you are, it reflects something you are not. It is of no substance by itself. Not believing in something doesn't define who you are, just like not believing in fairies doesn't define who you are. Most people are "afairiest," in that they don't believe in fairies. Does your afairiesm define you? Of course not. Have you even heard of the term? Probably not, because it is as meaningless as the term atheism. We can… Continue

The following was written last year, after a tornado ripped through a nearby area. I thought it would be enjoyed by my fellows in faithlessness.
Once more, that loving Christian god has shown his capricious sense of irony by hurling killer tornadoes at still another Florida trailer park. (Oops.. make that “mobile home community”…wouldn’t want to be p.i. in a godicle). The sick humor here is that this most recent assault was on a retirement community,… Continue

Yes, they're out there. The question is not about whether they exist or not, but about *what they'd like for breakfast*. Preferably, of course, the answer should exclude words like `us` in favour of things like `marmelade` or `fried eggs on toast`.
If you had a pet alien, what would you feed it?
