I am going to the Veterans Administration Wednesday for surgery on my right hand to relieve Dupuytren's Contractures, the second time in four years.
This time there is a difference. Four years ago I lived in Oklahoma, where as an atheist my Christian neighbours…Continue
My wife and I had an absolutely marvellous time at the Wyoming Mensa Dine-Out SIG in Cheyenne the other day.
A real city (with real traffic lights—it took a minute to realise those were not street corner decorations), fine food, fine conversation, and the chance to gather with other Mensans…
Last week when it snowed, I shovelled my walks, primarily for the church-goers across the street.
Today the wind chill is -26 F. Nope. Not doing it today, city trustee or no.
The religious will frequently argue that an atheist is inappropriate as a government representative for various reasons (you need a moral compass, ad nauseum).
The village clerk came by my house Friday afternoon with the agenda for the meeting. This will be my first full meeting as a councilman on the Village Board. Let's take a look at the agenda, and see where a "Christian Viewpoint (tm)" would be of use (more…
BCC: People who like to laugh at my expense when I do something incredibly stupid.
Since we will likely be using our 1943 electric wringer washer for the foreseeable future, there are safety lessons I need to remember about these devices. (The manufacturer of our front…Continue
It's Christmas Day, both a Federal secular holiday and the second-most important religious holiday (after Easter) in the Western Christian liturgical calendar.
I live across the street from the Lutheran Church in my village. While the minister and I are friends, I doubt she expects me to show up for services this morning, though the rest of…Continue
NIST atomic clock. As you can see, it still…Continue
I am on my village's city council. The council when they appointed me to the board on December 3 also made me the person responsible for lowering the village's flags to half-mast when required (by law, or proclamation). I am the disabled vet here, so it seemed reasonable to the village to give me that particular collateral duty.
Well, I was asleep, and Beth’s present was delivered to the house.
Unfortunately, the Navy Exchange shipped it in a container with exactly what it is marked on the outside of the box. She humped it into the house whilst I slept. Great.…Continue
I was incensed. There it was in the Washington Post, President Obama's campaign adviser casually acknowledging that he did not view the group collectively known as "nones" as a constituency.
This egregious statement is on a par with Mr. Romney's 47% remark. It simply sweeps us under the rug. He says we do not matter.
We do not matter even though an overwhelming majority of nones voted for the President's re-election; figures as high as 87% have been floated in…Continue
Despite the fact the Chairman of the Village Trustees of Broadwater is on record as disliking liberals, hippies, long-haired freaks, and not too keen on atheists (even as I write they are gathering at the Lutheran Church across what counts as a street), he still nominated me to the Village Board.
My long-haired hippieness graced the front…Continue
The World Health Organisation has a list of consequences of living in a rural area with epilepsy (even the USA, including social ones, as the Bible expressly notes epilepsy is caused by demon possession.) https://apps.who.int/inf-fs/en/fact166.html
People with seizure…Continue

I sound funny on the radio.
My wife BethKz thinks it went well.
I think the interview okay, we’ll have to see if the village arrives with pitchforks and torches.
I was interviewed on…
My wife BethKz and I traveled from our home in Western Nebraska (the panhandle near Scottsbluff) to attended the annual Veterans Day performance and luncheon for our county’s veterans at the county seat's Public School, sixteen miles/twenty-five kilometers away. One small school serves all students in all grades for the county from kindergarten through twelfth grade.…
