I have not been as active lately here at my first home as an atheist. Rest assured I am not gone.
There are a couple of reasons for this. Primarily my 16 year old son has a rare bone disease and has had to have the first of two total knee replacements.
The second reason that the people here have given me new confidence. I regularly post on Facebook and other sights answering questions about atheism and Christianity. When I first started here I was afraid so I used…Continue
Yesterday my daughter came home from her second day of college. On day two her history class started on the Epic of Gilgamesh, of which I was very impressed to hear. Then my daughter mentioned "the Jesus guy". She described a typical religious person in an outside area preaching. This of course was no surprise.
What did come as a shock is when she said she listened to his stories and immediately recognized the stories in the Epic of Gilgamesh that had been written 2000 years before…Continue
It is often said that many are atheist because they read the Bible. This is my story. I did not know there were atheist books, activists or anything of the sort. I was a christian with my Bible. I could not discuss doubts with other believers I had to study the Bible that was my only choice.
This is one of my favorite passages that led to my disbelief. I did not know that Nazareth was not inhabited at all during Jesus's life time, that there was no census or that it couldn't have…Continue

There is a movement that now poses it as a serious question but they are mostly considered fringe radicals. Most Christian scholars scoff at the question which is no surprise due to their Christian beliefs. Honestly, I believe that the “radicals” offer much compelling evidence for the case of a fictional Jesus though I…Continue
Bare with me this is not hate speech.
Let's say the Aztec religion becomes very prolific in the U.S. There's temples through out the country. Our Constitution protects the freedom of religion. Great especially if it also protects freedom from religion. One day these Aztec theist decide to sacrifice a random citizen at each temple every day to ensure the sun rises. Would their freedom of religion then be protected. Of course not. It would be deemed unconstitutional on the basis…Continue
Today for some random reason I began to reflect on early childhood memories of the protestant church. My mind wandered to Communion. I realized that there are many of those who are unaware of how the ceremony of Communion in the early 70’and before was conducted. They may be shocked and well, simply grossed out it. Its description could provide a good lesson in Christianity and huge laugh. Christianity has changed enormously since its beginning. It continues to constantly change even to…Continue
