Stephen Colbert is a what?

If you are aware of how politics run in the United States, then you certainly know who Stephen Colbert is

In case you don't know, Colbert is a satirist who parodies right-wing attitudes and criticizes them. Of course, he also takes on liberals sometimes, but conservatives tend to give more material for satire. Like this:…

Online "closet" atheists annoy me. Does that happen to you?

Yes they do. I don't hate them, but there is something in them that makes me feel sort of uneasy.

I have counted myself among those without religion for quite some time. I'm pretty open about it and I'm always eager to talk about it when the occasion is right (which isn't all the time, of course). So, as much as I'm open about it "in real life", I'm open about it online. I don't hide my name, nor my face and whoever wants to find me online can do it with a couple of clicks.…

Update on "What if I prayed": A boy died today.

Some days ago I posted a case of a pastor friend of mine who had his son very sick.

Well, Today December 24 my friend the pastor had to see his son be disconnected from the machine that kept him alive. After many week of anguish and of seeing that child fight between life and death, science could do nothing.

But what about God? If we…

I think I found Ned Flanders' daughter

Remember the Simpson's episode in which Homer finds out there is no God and when Flanders is shown proof of it, he dismisses it and prefers keep with his beliefs?

This episode:

Well, I think I found Flanders' daughter:

So, you wan't a war on Christmas...

In the United States there is a widespread idea that there is an ongoing "war on Christmas" waged by atheists and in general, people who prefer a secular government in which every person has the same rights. As usual, this idea is proposed by the whiny religious right (mainly conservative Christians).

Sometimes they will…

Muslim family values: Beat up your famous sister/daughter for dating a non-muslim

I know there is family violence everywhere, no matter place or economic status. But in this case you will notice that main reason has been the zealotry the Muslim faith inspires

And what if I prayed? This is what came out

As an atheist I don't pray. To me it's no different from talking to the air, or to the ceiling if I'm laying on my bed. Since I know it makes no difference in this world, I don't give up to such wishful thinking. However, I have friends who do pray. I think we all have. One of them is a pastor, a really nice guy who for me is kind of hard to see as the…

WikiLeaks reveals Vatican's lack of willingness to cooperate with sex abuse investigations

Seriously, that the Vatican wouldn’t want to cooperate with investigations regarding sex abuse is no news. But the Wikileaks cables are one of the most concrete pieces of evidence (perhaps the most concrete) that we have about the Vatican’s hypocrisy and how unwilling Ratzinger and his minions are to…

So, what’s wrong with Christmas spending?

Christmas is just around the corner, and with it, the complaints from many religious leaders about converting it in a celebration of consumption. For example:

Peruvian Cardinal Cipriani criticizes consumption on Christmas…

The Atheist Alchemist

It's been a long time since I followed a long anime series. A friend of mine was insisting me to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, arguing it was like nothing I had seen before. So I decided to give it a try. After the third episode I have to say I will continue watching the whole thing.

If you have time, watch this episode. There are still many gags and situations that might be boring or just silly unless you're 12 years old. But in general is a very good example how religion… Continue

The Jews and the reaction to the Flotilla attack

From Su Nombre en Vano

I don't write much about the Jews. This is mostly because either Christianity or Islam commit more atrocities and make their nonsense more obvious to the world. Which doesn't mean that the Jewish people are not guilty of anything, but in those cases, there is a huge percentage of the population (especially liberals) that will "stand for Palestine" and criticize Israel. Finally, I have to admit I don't know… Continue

Crimes are wrong... unless they are made in the name of God, right?

(Originally posted in Su Nombre en Vano)

Don't you love it when you get to see mainstream Christian's true colors? Don't you feel good to see that those who brag about loving the neighbor are just as, or even more bigoted than the average person? Isn't it reassuring that we are in the right path?

So, some days ago, this billboard was put up:…

Hypocrite among christians?

Sometimes I feel such a hypocrite...

Am I? The reason I ask myself this question and now put it to all of you is what started the last summer and continued until a couple of weeks ago.

During the summer I was working with a couple of guys at my college. Both of them really nice, a Japanese guy and an American of Lao descent. The Japanese guy, let's call him Taro, one Friday invited me to a party "for international students". I said sure, let's go. I hadn't gone to any… Continue
