It's a blog update from me! Wow!
Okay, I know no one on here even knows who I am. It's been a very long time since my last post. Therefore, no one is going to jump up and down in joy and rapture (har!) at this little update of mine.
From what I'm able to gather from previous blog posts and comments, when last you heard from me, I was contemplating coming out to my parents about being an atheist and having a hard time dealing with the reactions of my extended… Continue

Some of you may remember that I received a Facebook message from a Christian friend of mine awhile back, wherein she took it upon herself to tell me how much God loves me and all that. I responded to her in kind, explaining as nicely as I could why I no longer believe. I never got a response from her after that. Continue
Tonight, I received a message from a cousin. She was raised Catholic and although I don't think she really practices anymore, she…

Today I received a message on Facebook from a friend that I knew in YWAM (she's French, so her English isn't perfect):
Girl !!! I've been thinking of you lately? How are you?? I remembered clearly the day in india when we preached and you found the courage to share what happened to you and how God was restoring you. I admired so much what you did that day !!! I've seen on your status that you were not so crazy about all of this anymore. And i wanted to share with you that… Continue

As discussed in my previous blog, the books my aunt promised to send arrived today. She sent me Josh McDowell's The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict
and Answers to Tough Questions Skeptics Ask About the Christian Faith
. I have just over three weeks off from college for the holidays and I hope to have the books read within that time. I will also be posting my thoughts, questions, and interesting quotes from the books on here for your entertainment.
Thanks to everyone… Continue

I have been very open about being an atheist on Facebook and Twitter. I'm rather open about it in real life too, except to my parents. My dad's family is fairly religious and my aunt, who has seen all of my posts on atheism, has taken it upon herself to bring me back to God.
For those who don't know, I was raised Christian and was very involved in the church, to the point of being a missionary in India for a short time. After returning from the mission, I began to question my faith… Continue

It's been awhile, so I thought I'd post a little something to let my AN friends know I'm still around. I also just took some sleeping meds, so this will be short and it may be somewhat incoherent. Fun!
I've been busy with school, mostly. I'm getting my nursing prereqs done right now and my workload is pretty intense. I'm taking two lab sciences, biology and chemistry, as well as a general psychology class that requires 15 hours of "service learning" (basically, community… Continue

I was in the kitchen this morning making breakfast and accidentally knocked over some stuff on the floor (as I am prone to do). In jest, I turned my face toward the ceiling and shook my fist, "Curse you, Newton, and your theory of gravity!" To which my dad said, "It's not a theory, it's a law." I then explained, with good humor and reason, the scientific definitions of "theory" and "law," and how they differ from the common, everyday definitions. My dad's head spun a little. He's one of those… Continue

I knew today would be hard. The anniversary of 9/11 always sort of hangs like a dark cloud over my head, although this year seemed to be a little harder than most. Since my deconversion, my utter anger at the stupidity and violence committed in the name of religion is stronger. When I was a Christian, I saw the 9/11 attacks as a holy war and I was convinced I would eventually become a martyr for my side, and now although I still see it as a type of religiously-condoned war act, I can't help but… Continue

I just stumbled on this site of 38 reasons to wear the hijab, compiled by "various muslimahs". Thought I'd share with you all. I like #3 the best, I think. (#8 and #34 are good ones too.)
1. Because the Qur'an and Sunnah states so. Allah ordered us to wear the hijab and cover up to protect ourselves so we get the proper respect we deserve and not be treated like we are a piece of meat.
2. You can dye your hair any colour you want and no one can say anything at all,… Continue

I was browsing around Facebook this morning and found this "enlightened" tidbit from my sister:
French pool bars Muslim woman for 'burquini' suit
"And here I am thinking it's a great idea because they could help prevent skin cancer, especially, if they have the UVA/UVB protection too. Where can I buy one? (I don't think it is a… Continue

My mom was at the doctor today, digging around for the cash for her copay and discovered four $50 bills in the bottom of her purse. She swore to my dad and me that she had cleaned out her purse earlier in the week and hadn't seen it there, and of course she would have noticed $200 floating around in there. It'd be kind of hard to miss. Anyway, she took the money to the bank and deposited it in savings (which, if you knew my mom, is almost a miracle in itself).
She and my dad are… Continue

I'll have to pose this one to a pastor sometime. I was just reading another post on this forum wherein a theist asked if Jesus ever got sick. One person mentioned "original sin," and that since Jesus was supposedly sinless he probably didn't.
But this got me thinking...
In my church, we believed that not only was Jesus fully God, he was fully man.
We believed that all men are born in sin.
Since Jesus was a man, as well as God, wouldn't he also have… Continue

Can't say I saw this when I was in India, but I don't think it would have surprised me. I saw stranger things...
From Yahoo! News
PATNA, India (Reuters) – Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plow parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said on Thursday.
Witnesses said… Continue

There has been too much drama in my life recently. I just need to write about stuff to get it off my chest--writing has always been therapeutic for me.
First of all, my sister's family is going through hell. My brother-in-law is in the Army, and last year he was sent to Heidelberg, Germany for duty. He, my (then-pregnant) sister, and their 10-month-old daughter made the long journey to Germany and got settled in and enjoyed being able to explore the sites around the region. A few… Continue

Unlike theology, atheism isn't really taught in institutions of higher learning except at religious universities for the purpose of apologetics. Since that is the case, I'm trying to get back into reading some of the more well-known books on the subject to educate myself. Last summer I read The God Delusion, God is Not Great,
and about half of The End of Faith.
This spring, I bought Letter to a Christian Nation
and read it at least 3 times.
Today, after being… Continue

Being new to this site, I feel I should write up my own "deconversion" story for any of you out there who want to get to know me better. I'm always looking for friends! It's hard to find like-minded people out there, which is why I'm so excited to have found Atheist Nexus. I'm definitely an internet geek, and I sometimes find it easier to connect with people online rather than in real life. If there are any of you in the Spokane area, let me know! I'd love to make some friends and meet up for… Continue
