If you are a fan of Dr. Darrell Ray (founder of Recovering from Religion and author of The God Virus) and/or a fan of intelligent conversation about the effects of religion in our and other cultures, then I invite you to listen to our recently released interview with the man/legend himself at:…

The following blog entery refers to the results of a Gallup survey linked here: http://www.gallup.com/poll/144080/religious-americans-enjoy-higher-wellbeing.aspx
As most of the people reading this are probably aware, a recent Gallup survey relieved that Americans who qualify as being very religious (according to Gallup this would be individuals who… Continue

This entry was a response to recent email I received from a theist who argued that individuals following “atheistic philosophies were responsible for more deaths than any other group in human history”. Obviously he was referring to the millions who have… Continue

When asked how a non-believer such as myself can justify his condemnation of the actions of Hitler, I gave this response:
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out?because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out?because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out?because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me?and there was no one left to speak out for… Continue

1. God does not exist because theists can only make unsubstantiated assertions and flawed syllogisms to “prove” its existence.
2. Because if he did, I would have felt him in my heart by now.
3. Our observations and understandings of reality can all be explained without once ever referring to the existence of a non-physical divine being.
4. Properly critical examination of the evidence will invariably require a rational human to conclude that while there may possibly be a god,… Continue

I have recently moved to a small town about 25 miles south of Kansas City. My wife and I went to the city hall to sign up for various city maintained utilities (electricity, water). After getting signed up and putting down a deposit, the nice lady behind the counter offered us a 'Welcome to Gardner Kansas' bag filled with various advertisements and coupons to local establishments...oh yeah it included one other thing: a booklet provided by a local baptist church. This particular publication was… Continue

I think it's pretty clear that we have some of that going on here, but how much? When you see “atheists” on this site demanding to know why Dawkins and Hitchens aren't speaking out about Nazism; or scolding atheists about their “tendency” to pick and choose the facts that fit their agenda; or questioning just how far atheists are willing to go to eliminate religion, then I think it's clear that we have a Christian provocateur on the site. Now, on any other site I wouldn't mind, and once you… Continue

The Golden Rule... "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you." Now let's look at what other religions have to say about that:
Bahá'í: "And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose thou for thy neighbour that which thou choosest for thyself."
Buddhism: "Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful."
Confucianism: "Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you."
Egyptian: "Do for one who may do for you,… Continue

This is an article posted in the KC Star written by my friend (and fellow host of The Agnostic Salvation hour) Cole Morgan.
Since the link failed to "link" here's the article:
“Why do you go?” Friends ask me this whenever I mention that I enjoy going to Bible studies. I suppose that’s because they know I am an atheist.
About a year ago, some buddies and I started going to different churches together.… Continue

Sayest the Christian:
No you cannot claim that the holocaust is evil. You can merely say that you personally dislike that kind of behavior. The holocaust, in a world without objective moral truth, is taboo; nothing more
Yes I can. Again, the permission of such behavior has consequences for us all. A world in which such disregard for human life was considered the norm or acceptable would not be a world in which I would choose to live. Such a world… Continue

Having been born and raised a devote Catholic, I look today at the Christianity observed by many of my fellow countrymen and see nothing that resembles the Christianity I thought I once knew. Concerns about social justice that I had growing up as a Christian seem that have been replaced with a worship of open market capitalism and a love affair with Social Darwinism (though they would never call it that). Polls show that those least concerned with the state of the environment are those who… Continue

Sayest the Christian:
So I don't misunderstand you, you do affirm that there is no objective morals or real right or wrong? Or are you saying some things are wrong and some things are right, for instance rape, are you taking kind of a Betrand Russel stance and saying that like yellow is not blue, rape is wrong. Things are as they are kind of thing... Hopefully that makes sense but I just wanted to clear up what you were saying... because for me, knowing for sure that certain things are… Continue
