First of all, hey guys! I haven't been on for awhile! Continue
I just wanted to pop back in to my good old atheist community to express some concern over two trends I am noticing in some atheists.
The first is dogmatic atheism. I've gone 5 years never having to encounter a dogmatic atheist and suddenly I've met a couple recently. Atheism is NOT and can NOT be a positive claim. People claiming that there is definitely no god (apparently they exist) need to be confronted whenever…

I'm writing a paper on how conservatism in religion brings penalties in legislation and has a negative impact on society.
I'd LOVE some support from all of you. I know that somebody's going to make a great point that I might have missed.
Rough sketch of supporting ideas:
1. God is not moral by modern standards (Bible primary reference)
2. The penalties that conservative religious values have on society (oppressive psychological bonds that limit reasoning skills,… Continue

It's starting to really bother me. Every theist on facebook seems to be activey trying to convert me and no matter what the hell I do, they always just leave. It's extremely rediculous. What the hell could compell someone to presuppose that they are right and never bother to defend it? Every time they throw something at me that they thing sounds smart (irreducible complexity, order to the universe, etc)
I rip it apart peice by piece and rather than THINKING about what they thow at me, they… Continue

hey guys. I wanted to bring a discussion to your attention. Basically this is a portion of a thread on facebook where atheists and theists alike try to smash a bigot who agrees with Robertson. Here's the excerpt:

Erik is a sad hateful self righteous little man. Believe whatever you want. I worship a God of Love, Compassion, and… Continue

after I read Glen Watson's blog: youtube - what a crazy flamin' universe we have there!
I discovered that Owl City is actually a Christian inspired band!
A little shock at first although after some analasis, their tunes have some cleverly catchy transitions but the lyrics are so utterly bland and thoughtless... it's kind of like mental opium...
so I'm sure anyone of decent knowledge of… Continue

I did a little creative writing project. tell me how you like it!
The Skeptic's Prayer:
I don't know if you exist or not but if you do and created me the way I am I thank you for that because I like being able to think for myself. I don't know what you're like or if you speak English since we are praying ot the Hebrew god and all, but I have a couple family members here who feel comforted by me praying so I'll proceed to thank you for a couple… Continue

yeah you know the argument ... atheists have no way of justifying morality... if there is no purpose, how do we continue to live with ourselves
what's your favorite response to the rediculous notion?
I like to talk about the morality of mosquitos. I always pondered their purpose as a theist. They really made me start to question the "purpose" nonsense.
If everything must have a purpose to exist, which is already a fallicious argument, what is the purpose… Continue

Has anyone heard of this place? I looked it up and obviously I'm skeptical about it, but apparently there are alleged miracles about skeptics going to the shrine to do tests and leaving "with their minds clear"
or whatever that means...
anyway, has anybody heard of it? I want some skeptic input too.
here's some basic info.
at first glance it looks… Continue

I was just talking with a friend about how much more badass Thor is than Yaweh. It would be the best fight scene ever.
Yaweh can be popping planets out of thin air to hurl at thor that thor can smash with his hammer and then yaweh can dodge the hammer and make a tital wave from parting the red sea that knocks Thor off his feet and thor can shoot lightning and Yaweh could deflect it with a swarm of locusts and....
oh I can see it now...that would be so awesome... reminds me… Continue

I dunno what makes me so happy today... maybe because I have had an extremely productive day on the frontlines of atheist blogging, maybe because it is so close to christmas, maybe because I just bought a great present for myself on Amazon...
All I know is it's a great day to be alive and I just needed to share it with someone =)
Happy Holidays everyone!

I know that atheists aren't immune to groupthink, but I mean come on people!
I'm seeing discussions pop up in groups like "pro-choice atheists" and then think to myself: 'how productive can these discussions possibly be?
The trend continues with feminist groups and discussions by established members catering to biases.
Come now! I spend all day fighting christian groupthink and come back to see it exhibited here!! This is supposed to be my release from… Continue

ok, this is something that CONSTANTLY comes up in my debates, so I'd like to ask you all to help me compile a list of reasons why religion is bad and the world should be more secular.
here are a few of the ideas that I currently use:
-Religion promotes groupthink, which is a chain on the ankle of progress and doesn't accurately or effectively solve problems, but rather stifles critical thinking and new hypotheses. The Church wants you to be who they want… Continue

Studying for my Gcom final today, I ran across the definition of groupthink again.
Groupthink is a type of thought exhibited by group members who try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing, and evaluating ideas. Individual creativity, uniqueness, and independent thinking are lost in the pursuit of group cohesiveness, as are the advantages of reasonable balance in choice and thought that might normally be obtained by making decisions as a… Continue

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not racist and I'm half asian anyway, but why do I see so many white atheists? Why is the diversity so...well... virtually nonexistent?
Going through A/N and encountering atheists elsewhere, can't get over the fact that I hardly ever see any black, Indian, or Latino (is that the politically correct term?) atheists except the very few scattered here and there. I've only seen one other asian too.
Why do you all think that is? I know that at least… Continue

The fun part starts at "let the slaughter begin." I think it's well worth the read.
My post on a poll:
This kind of idolizing of dead people is why conservatives are so backwards. “BUT LOOK!! The f-f-founders said this!” Is not even a good argument and shouldn’t have so much weight on debate. What matters is now, not then. They founded this country based on what they knew in their present. If you want to make that argument, the FOUNDERS were, in fact, radical… Continue

anyone else sick of theists fear-tacticing you into belief?
here's a standard one I got today:
"I don't have to prove anything to you. You will find out soon enough..."
Besides how sickening it is that a theist is comforted by my burning in eteranal anguish, I am so tired of answering idiotic arguments like this with my reasoning, so I went out to look for a good generic response that I can cut/paste in addition to my statement of repusion.

I think atheists like us need to stop allying evolution with non-belief. We need to stop using it to try and disprove creationism because evolution does not directly refute creation (hence deists: people who think god created the universe and let it run by itself.
It's turning into a pseudo-dogma and is being used against us in teaching creationism in schools.
what do you think?
