James Yount's Blog (15)

Mom, there's an alien in my closet.

Well, religion is fun to trounce but there are also other extraordinary and unsubstantiated claims out there.  Aliens is a big one these days.  From the History Channel's "ancient alien theorists" to your Billy Bob abductees and even some politicians.  Take this guy:

Ignorant and Hateful Quotes from Religious Leaders

I would like to compile a list of quotes from overrated religious leaders that highlight their ignorance and hateful theologies, any help?…

You're a sinner, but it's ok because God loves you...

An ex-friend wrote this in his blog.  Do you think he comforted this girl?  What real answers does he give her?

Thinking About Gay Stuff.

It's 5:03 in the morning.

I was just laying in bed, about to sleep and feeling tired finally after a nights work and mental stimulation. I was comfortable and I was ready to sleep. However, I couldn't stop thinking about a conversation that I had with someone while at work…

Did Jesus Rise from the Dead Debate

This debate perfectly illustrates the difference between the Christian short sighted emotional appeals and atheist reason and free-thought. I hadn't heard of Dr. Richard Carrier before, but I'll definitely be watching more of his stuff.  Enjoy.

Can an atheist provide comfort in times of tragedy? Response to Dennis Prager.

I used to greatly respect Dennis Prager, but having listened and read from far superior authors and thinkers, I can't say I do anymore (See the Hitchens vs. Prager debate on Youtube for instance). In the following article for instance, Prager states that Atheists can provide no comfort in times of grief such as to the Sandy Hook victim's parents. He's responding to an article from an atheist who's…

Have you guys heard about Christian Atheists?

Evidently there's a small fringe of Christianity that believes that god literally died to clear the sin slate for humanity. That is, as they say, why there are no longer miracles or an involved deity.  These Christians believe that they should live their lives by the moral teachings of Jesus anyway.  Just when I thought I had heard of it all.....

What If Atheists Acted Religious?

Reason VS Survival of the Fittest

Oft times we nontheists focus on the dangers of religious ideologies. However, there exists within atheism a potential for hate that rivals the bloodiest of religious fanatics. I am talking of 'survival of the fittest.'  Evolution itself is predicated on the idea that we have evolved to our current biology as a means to make us superior to other species in the world. This is a fact of nature but need it be a fact of human interaction? Richard Dawkins believes it a terrible idea to base…

An Evolution debate on Youtube (The ending is worth the read!)

The fossil record is not proof for evolution. Where I can go see the geologic column? There is no such place, it can only be found in the textbooks. Darwinists will concoct elaborate scenarios and fabricated diagrams of all the layers perfectly aligned to fit the theory, but it's all make-believe, nothing real that can be tested or observed, just drawings. If you find some bones, there's no proof that it had ANY children before it…

A Biblical Challenge and a Conversation

1 kings 18-27 It came about at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Call out with a loud voice, for he is a god; either he is occupied or gone aside, or is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and needs to be awakened.”

In this passage Elijah mocks the prophets of Baal because their God is silent. But what of the God of the Bible today? Is he not as silent as Baal was in this passage? I argue then that the God of Abraham deserves the same mockery that his prophet Elijah leveled…
