I have been a homelessness activist for some time. I've worked with lots of homeless people and I've been homeless myself. There's a taboo subject inside the realm of homelessness, one which can really cause people to flip out on you. That subject is the relationship of religion to teen and young adult homelessness.
A while back, I decided to slide it into one of my pages on homelessness in which I discuss causes of homelessness. Unsurprisingly, I had to moderate a number of comments… Continue

Atheists in America have been made to feel unwanted for many years and it hasn't gotten any better. As a result, many atheists still feel they need to stay in the closet.
As you probably already know a number of atheist and secular humanist groups have bought advertising space on billboards and buses in response to this trend.

Yeah, I know, it's been done before. But there are so many people out there with weird questions to ask atheists. But then again, a lot of them are just the same old questions over and over again.
I've answered a bunch in article format. To make the process more interactive, I made a Squidoo page with a duel section and a box where readers can ask questions. I've even answered some of those questions. However, I'm still working on the answer to the most recent one because I don't… Continue

I'm really sick of hearing people equate acceptance of evolution with atheism. It annoys me greatly when people insist this is an atheist country (I know, WTF?) because evolution is taught about in public schools.
So I created a page on Squidoo called "What Evolution Isn't" which attempts to explain that evolution is science, not a religion, not a belief system nor is it an evil plot to destroy religion.

I started writing a lens on Squidoo to promote some of my atheist relevant web content but then I branched out from there to other topics.
If you want to help a starving atheist afford her meds next month, visit some of my Squidoo lenses. My rankings increase according to the number of views I get combined with the star ratings others give my pages. All of this adds up to about $12 per month for lenses that stay in the top two thousand on Squidoo.
So you can help the poor… Continue

This article is another in my series of articles about what evolution isn't. My aim is to get people talking about evolution and to see how bloody ignorant it is to be anti-evolution.
There seems to be some confusion, especially in the conservative Christian community, between the Theory of Evolution and Social Darwinism.
"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" which came out in 2008 was a film created to arouse anti-science and anti-evolution sentiments among viewers. To that… Continue

I find it rather odd that there are people who believe in life after death but, apparently, they don't really believe in life before death. As an atheist, I believe the exact reverse of that. I don't think life is just a dress rehearsal for something else, I believe it is the main and only attraction.
Read the editorial I wrote about life before death.

You know it: I know it, but why don't they know it? It's pretty obvious that atheists don't believe in God, but for some reason, a fair number of people seem to think atheists believe in God but just choose not to worship God. While some people who may believe in God may choose not to worship it doesn't make them atheists.
Because I kept bumping into this weird idea that atheists believe in God but have… Continue

A question thrown out often in debate between Christians and atheists is “If you can’t explain the origin of the universe and the origin of life then why don’t you just believe in God?” It is often followed up with, “Doesn’t it make more sense to believe in God because all those questions are answered in the Bible. All science has is theories but the Bible has the Truth.” I have answered this question so frequently that I decided to write an… Continue

I keep getting comments, pm's, and emails regarding a satire piece I wrote for Christmas. There's even a 'Stumbler' who thought the article was serious and reviewed it as if it were here
I've gotten messages from Christians telling me that mistletoe isn't a Christian religious symbol and messages from pagans insisting the same. I've even gotten a… Continue

Oh, bloody hell it's cold outside! Right now it's 9 degrees with a wind chill factor of -12 degrees. We got almost a foot of snow yesterday and may get as much as eight inches today with gusting winds up to 40 miles per hour.
I've got to move out of this frelling frigid place! Cold weather does not mix well with fibromyalgia, arthritis, or lupus. My aches and pains have aches and pains.

A Very Atheist Christmas
Just as Christians have adopted many pagan traditions of the winter festivals such as decorating trees, giving gifts, feasting, and singing door-to-door some atheists also choose to adopt those pagan traditions and celebrate Christmas, much like many Christians do.
Since many Christians are upset when Atheists celebrate Christmas (or use American currency with "In God We Trust" on it) I propose that Atheists create their own version of the… Continue

I've written just a few editorials about subjects relevant to atheists for publication on Associated content but they seem to get a huge response. Some of the discussions in their comments are more entertaining than the articles themselves!
I was a little afraid to post anything that made it clear I'm an atheist for fear of getting bashed, possibly physically again but I went ahead and started doing so about a year ago on another site. I've gotten plenty of nasty pm's and emails but… Continue
