I really feel restrained in terms of what I can post on my Facebook page due to having so many religious friends and family members. I usually just end up just liking other posts or sharing something not likely to offend to many. Yet at the same time, I have to see their constant barrage of postings about their imaginary friend. Give me a fracking break. I think I'm going to start posting more on here because I feel like I have to be fake on Facebook.

This is why I joined.  I posted one little thing, a quote from the Treaty of Tripoli about how the US gov't was not founded on Christianity.  A historical fact, in plain writing for everyone to understand.  And before it was over, I had to defuse the situation by reminding my Aunt to step back and that she does, in fact, love me.

BTW, it didn't help.  Just because it says point-blank, in 1797, that the nation was not founded on Christianity is no reason to believe it wasn't, I guess.

I don't have this problem and put atheist stuff all over my facebook profile. But I never go there; it's only for finding people. I have my own public blog to interface with the public and now I can come here to talk with like-minded folk. Whatever would I need facebook for? Plus it seems that everyone posts nonsense there. To me, it's AOL writ large: a place where you make believe you're on the internet but you're really in a playpen that someone constructed. I detest facebook and tell friends to email me or visit my blog. That takes care of that.

I feel the same way as you do Daniel. The only way I can think to put it is something like being in the closet. I don't mean anything about being gay or anything like that. But in a way it has the same effect, as in for my case, a disappointing outlook from my parents. I know that I don't believe in any kind of creator, but my family is religious. I have finally started, coming out of the closet, to my family. At first I just got that disappointed look from my father, but to my surprise my mother just sat me down and we had an intelligent talk about it. She understands the way I think and now is fine with everything. My father now doesn't treat me any different or talk down to me, I just know not to bring it up with him around. I don't know if this will help you any but I hope it does. Stick to it and don't let everyone around you make you lie to yourself about what you know.

you could always chose to ignore those peoples posts, not just as in not reading them but you an chose the option of their posts not showing.
