I can't believe my Mother sent this to ME!

DID

YOU

KNOW?

As
you
walk up the steps to the building which
houses the U..S Supreme Court you can see near
the
top of the building a row of the world's law
givers
and each one is facing one in the middle
who
is facing forward with a full frontal view
...
It is Moses and he is holding the Ten
Commandments!

DID
YOU
KNOW?

As
you
enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two
huge
oak doors have the Ten Commandments
engraved
on each lower portion of each
door.

DID
YOU
KNOW?
As you sit
inside
the
courtroom, you can see the wall, right above
where
the Supreme Court Judges sit, a display of
the
Ten Commandments!

DID
YOU
KNOW?
There
are
Bible verses etched in stone all over the
Federal
Buildings
and
Monuments
in
Washington ,
D.C.

DID
YOU
KNOW?

James
Madison ,
the fourth president, known as 'The
Father
of Our Constitution' made the
Following
statement:

'We
have
staked the whole of all our political
Institutions
upon the capacity of mankind for
Self-government,
upon the capacity of each and
all
of us to govern ourselves, to control
ourselves,
to sustain ourselves according
to
The Ten Commandments of
God.'

DID
YOU
KNOW?
Every
session
of Congress begins with a prayer by a
paid
preacher, whose salary has been paid by the
taxpayer
since 1777.

DID
YOU
KNOW?

Fifty-two
of
the 55 founders of the Constitution were
members
of the established Orthodox churches in
the
colonies..

DID
YOU
KNOW?

Thomas
Jefferson
worried that the Courts would overstep
their
authority and instead of Interpreting the
law
would begin making law an oligarchy the rule
of
few over many.

How
then,
have we gotten
to the point that
everything
we have done for 220 years in this
Country
is now suddenly wrong and
Unconstitutional?

Lets
put
it around the world and let the world see
and
remember what this great country was Built
on The
Holy Bible and belief in
GOD!

I
was
asked to send this on if I agreed or

if I didn't. Now it is your turn. ..

If
you
agree, pass this on

Eric, hilarious!

so i talked with her about this.  she pretty much ignored what i had replied and simply stated that "it's a good list for all people to abide by."  i told her that we would have to agree to disagree.  then she informed me of something that i was unaware of - the Catholics have their own version of the Ten Commandments.  i was raised Catholic and i didn't know this.  yet after perusing the list, i do indeed rememeber that version from my upbringing.  how funny is it that Moses' Commandments weren't good enough for the Catholic Church.  they needed to doctor it to fit into their own dogma.  now isn't that just too perfect??!!

Jason, yes i did.  i was hoping that it was part of a mass email but unfortunately i was the only recipient.

i should add, although it is not included in what i posted here, that the beginning of this email stated that this was created by our friend, Andy Rooney.  i wonder if the author of the original email would have sent it had they known that Andy was an Atheist.

So Matthew, did you send your mother the same response you posted here? You could ask her to "pass it on".

Anytime anyone wants to insist that the US is somehow a christian nation, just remind them of Article VI of the Constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli, particularly Article XI of that document.  Usually shuts the fools up.

my response:

it's funny how much people care about the 10 commandments, yet most americans don't even know what they are.

"How many of The Ten Commandments can you name? Put to the test, Americans recalled the seven ingredients of a McDonald's Big Mac hamburger and members of TV's "The Brady Bunch" more easily than the Bible's Ten Commandments."

1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

the first 4 are all about God, nothing about law.  plus, #1 seems to imply that there must be other Gods out there to worship, but please pick him, or else.  the rest of the list is nothing groundbreaking, pretty basic stuff.  don't steal, murder, or commit adultery (which isn't a crime so much as a moral decree).  also, people wearing crosses breaks #2, people saying "oh god" or "dear god" or any of that breaks #3.  #4 nobody listens to.  i guess i don't see what's so spectacular about these 10 rules.

that number is innacurate, but the ones that people actually KNOW, like Madison, Jefferson, Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Adams, and Paine were all freethinking deists.  Madison, for example, said this:  ""Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."    Adams said this: ""God is an essence that we know nothing of.  Until this awful
