Photos from Da Vinci: Anatomist

"On the 6th of June 2012 - I travelled to London, Buckingham Palace, The Mall. To the Royal Galleries to see the newly opened "Da Vinci: Anatomist" exhibit. This was truly awesome, and luckily they let me take my camera inside.... It's taken me a while to process and upload these - but here they are at last - enjoy!"

Ah but to see the originals - that itself was something else!

very sad too - his final drawings and notes refer to the "little doors" in the heart - or valves as we call them. He even drew the vortexes generated by the blood passing through that draws the valve closed.

However he was operating centuries before Harvey cottoned onto the circulation of the blood, and so with no theoretical framework into which he could plug this observation he is left repeating the activity and marvelling at the mystery of it until he died never having reconciled this fact with explanation.

I felt rather sad upon learning that: he was so far ahead of his peers he was denied this. Almost makes you wish there was an afterlife sp you could take him to one side and say "no, no its like this see? It goes *around.."

Wonderful pix!  At one time, I know that Gray's Anatomy used many of Leonardo's illustrations as its plates because of the quality of their detail.  I'd be curious to know if they still do.
