This morning at work the news was on. Annoyingly on Fox News. I don't know what that woman's name is that comes on in the morning but i can't stand her ... I won't rant about her right now. Anyway she declared that the evil childrens' rights treaty which was accepted by everyone but the US and one other horrid country will keep people from teaching their kids religion, spanking, and giving time outs. These things were actually listed in text. She repeatedly said "some people in Geneva will get to dictate how we raise our children", etc. I just read the entire thing myself and could find nothing that could be interpreted that way. I suppose a paranoid nut could read this
States Parties shall respect the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
States Parties shall respect the rights and duties of the parents and, when applicable, legal guardians, to provide direction to the child in the exercise of his or her right in a manner consistent with the evolving capacities of the child.
Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary to protect public safety, order, health or morals, or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.
or this
States Parties shall take all appropriate legislative, administrative, social and educational measures to protect the child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s) or any other person who has the care of the child.
or this
States Parties recognize the right of every child to a standard of living adequate for the child's physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
and conclude that something really really bad is going on with these Geneva guys and we want no part of it.
Oh and by the way, one of the reasons it was not accepted before was because Texas wants the right to capital punishment of children. Why am I proud to be American again?
