WE all tend  to make fun of the bible because  of God  and his many  miracles....However  the expression  `throwing the baby  out with the bathwater'  applies  here'......The bible should be renamed  the Book of Ancient history......My point is  if you take out  all references  to God  and his many  miracles, all that is left  are  stories  of real people  who  actually  shaped  our lives in many ways......The so called bible  gets  the dates  wrong, but  archaeological  digs  can  verify  the dates for us..the people  mentioned were  real  and need their stories  told.....The first  thing I would  discard is  God creating  the universe  in 6 days and resting  on day 7....Adam and Eve  and the Garden of Eden  has to go.....There may have  been a Noah   but the Ark  is  way over the top and the part with  2 of each animal that was living  at the  time  is  total  nonsense......The miracles  of Moses were most likely natural  events  over many years.....The burning bush, has to go, God writing   the 10 commandments, has to go, although  I am sure  Moses wrote them along  with many  books  of the Torah......The Virgin birth was really  Mary  cheating on Joseph  and  making  up a story...After all  adultery  was frowned  upon  then even more than today......The 3 wise men     following   the bright star all the way  to the birth of Jesus is  a total myth.....Jesus  walking on water  was merely  walking  on a plateau in the water which drops  off....The resurrection  was merely  a grave robber stealing his body, which was common  then....I could go on but  you know  what I mean....We need an Atheist to rewrite the bible and make it  a history  book instead, maybe then people  will believe in it...

To other's here besides Freethinker31,

Did you see the other place where I mentioned that the WHOLE SCROLL is made up? That not even one bit of it is based on history? That it is 100% myths and superstitions and fantasy?

So you have, but I'm still confused about what biblical information you do find to be historically significant.

@Future...You need to keep up,...Look back  and you will see I addressed  all of this  in previous  threads.....

Which parts specifically? Talking snake? Impossible flood? A pair of every animal crossing the globe to hop on an ark? Burning (but not really burning) bushes? Offering up daughters as rape toys? Rules from God like a woman may only remarry if it is to her dead husband's brother? Ten Commandments written into stone directly by the hand of god, then callously broken by Moses, who was ordered to carve a new set that mysteriously have disappeared? Stop me when I hit on something remotely plausible.

@ Future...Maybe so,but you are talking  about my ancestors, it is hard  to let go...Some of  us want and even need  to believe that at least  some  of  this history is true....Please  respect  that...

Personally, I am more than happy to throw the baby out with the bath water when it comes to scripture and history. Today's environment would easily manage to progress if those controversial bits of history were forever forgotten.

@Michael.....You obviously have strong feelings about it...but I need more proof and so  will stick with what I said.....

If the glove does not fit you cannot wear it. That is not being cynical.

@Michael......Don't be so  cynical.......The major players  were real.....They were just made out to be  super heroes....Yes  the camels  were  not domesticated  until  years later....the dates  in the bible  are  a few centuries  off...Go figure....I think you have just turned  your back  on the whole  thing.....

There's not a lot of history in the buybull and some people in the stories there never did exist. They were a composite of others so the stories became appealing around camp fires. By the time it was all written down people started believing in it as truth. The dating of it is impossible by the records of the digs, and camels were even domesticated way before they actually were domesticated. What this tells me is that everything was re-written many times. J documents, P, E, and D is where it all came from and the re-writing was to make many tribal gods turn into one god and also make everything fit. The Old Pesterment was a work in progress for many years stemming from these 4 document sources.
