Gary Randall Defends Marriage at State Rally from Gary Randall on Vimeo. http://vimeo.com/3819906

I've had to be a tightwad lately. I haven't been able to donate as much as I'd like to for various worthy causes. Today I recieved the following from Equal Rights Washington, a local group advocating marriage equality for everyone in my state. As a married person it sickens me that marriage discrimination still exists. Anyways I think I made it about 30 seconds into that video before my wallet came out. Any of you that would like to help out, I encourage you to do so, I don't think it really matters where you live. We don't need another California. We don't need more of this church state violation:

Dear Heather,
Last week in Olympia, we were given a glimpse of what the Far-Right is capable of producing. Extremists converged on the Capitol grounds in an effort to convince legislators in support of granting those in domestic partnerships the same rights as married couples to change their vote. Crowd estimates were larger than normal. Here is footage of Gary Randall, of the Faith and Freedom Network, during the rally.

While we are looking with great optimism toward a legislative victory shortly, this also comes with knowing the larger fight is soon to take place, potentially in a matter of months and likely will play out through the next one to two years. Inevitably, we will face a referendum at some point.

Contribute here to say you will ACT for real change when the time c...

Only with your support can we move into the next phase of this process. Within the next two legislative sessions, it is HIGHLY likely that the issue of marriage will come before the legislature again.

Will you have done enough when that time comes, or will our state become another California?

We must mobilize Eastern Washington though opening offices and implementing aggressive, strong, state-wide field strategy. We must be able to do the work to assure that public and legislative support are in tandem. That takes a great deal of time and effort on the behalf of many, which also takes funding.

Join us in this FIGHT and say YES to your personal commitment to EQUALITY!

Quite honestly it disturbed me. He was talking about starting an initiative to dissolve everyone's domestic partnerships. I'm afraid of them getting enough funding from out of state places like the LDS church in order to pass this sort of crap through a smear campaign, kinda like in California. That's why I donated. I swear it's like we leave town for one week and all this crazy shit happens...

Basically Washington has been pushing for equal rights lately. Since '06 they've managed to expand rights once a year. My local Representative seems the think that equal marriage rights will be possible in the not too distant future.
