I think not.
Further, religious "moderates" and "liberals" have enabled our creeping theocracy.

John, "so help me god" in most cases can be discarded from oaths taken. However, "In god we trust" and "one nation under god" have been forcibly inserted into our government and culture to cootchie-coo Christians, and both need to be expunged. Sadly, Michael Newdow's suit to remove "In god we trust" lost traction, though as I understand it, he's still working on it. As for the Pledge, it will take a potent groundswell of atheists and secularists to get that dislodged. And that isn't even half the fight. Creationists still want to teach their crap in science courses, and I suspect that Mr. Pence would just as soon edit the Preamble of the Constitution to insert a reference to his buddy, the carpenter-turned-rabbi he's so sweet on. He would have this country turned into a Christian nation de facto and de jure. And we can't let him.
The current Vice President's motto : " I am a christian first, a conservative second and a republican third."
" So Help Me God " needs to be removed from our government.
Ummm ... don't you mean, "Baphomet bless 'em?!?" [chuckle!]
Thanks for the comment, Loren.
The solution to the “Christian privilege” problem you pointed out is to not allow any of this to go unchallenged. The best example of this is The Satanic Temple’s opposition to religious monuments on public land, support of women’s reproductive rights ... god bless ‘em!
The short answer is, of course, "No ... they're not."The reason why the religious and particularly Christians expect special treatment, at least in the US, can be put in two words: "Christian privilege." Because the United States is populated mostly by Christians, many of them see that status as a justification for dominating the culture and the government, which they have to varying degrees. The offenses have ranged from altering our money and the Pledge of Allegiance to foisting Christian prayers on local, state, and even federal government meetings to attempts, some successful, some not, to teach creation science in classrooms. Indeed, a reaction by corporate America to FDR's New Deal resulted in the further church-ification of our country as documented in Kevin Kruse's book, One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Created Christian America. Then, on top of everything else, Ronald Reagan invites the evangelicals to participate directly in our government, beliefs and all, 'cuz he says it's okay.So now you have a Christian population who presumes their entitlement to privileged status, most of them without having ANY IDEA how it came to be that way ... and when atheists point out the law and that they've abused it or gotten a pass up until now, they get all bent.Poor babies. For them, I have a simple message: GET USED TO IT.
Religious moderates' obliviousness to what is going on around them is contemptible.
It's time to start pointing this out to them.
These days they generate a special form of contempt for me.
