Happy International Blasphemy Rights Day!
To celebrate, I wrote a column for Daily Kos:
“It’s Time to Give Blasphemy the Respect it Deserves” http://bit.ly/2kcOULg

Michel Penn, your comment that Christians have no idea of what they believe (a logical impossibility if you think about it) is on the money. I suggest you tell those self-professed believers to read Matthew 5:17-20, in which Jesus orders his followers to fulfill the laws laid out in the Old Testament (stoning homosexuals, disobedient children, bride who are found not to be virgins, ...) in order to enter Heaven. Then ask them whether they are immoral enough to do so. You’re not likely to convert anyone to rational behavior. But a little cognitive dissonance never hurt anyone.
Vangelis, thanks for the Blasphemy. Keep up the good work!
So many tell us don't take his name in vain. What does that mean? Using his name for nothing? Jesus is a name and Christ is a title. Even so, there is an over the road tractor and trailer traveling around that says "his name is Jesus Christ." These people need to study more. They have no idea what they believe. Or, what they believe has no bearing in fact.
Yep, that felt good.
Thank you for the comment, Grinning Cat. It's a scary new America.
One of the bits that could well be a big, bolded pull quote:
"Belief in belief is enabling Trump and his appointees to dismantle some 60 years of social and environmental progress right under the noses of those who will be ravaged the most."
Funny video. Thanks.
And in celebration of International Blasphemy Rights Day, I think it's time to break out an oldie but a goodie. HIT IT, TIM!!!
Even the less devout followers of gods believe that "god will get you" for the most dumb things. God is going to "strike you down" for blasphemy, and heavy dopers claim to believe. It gets worse when we read constantly that "what goes around comes around" and what they mean by this saying is karma. Karma will get you. Everybody knows this. What many do no know is that karma simply means "doing." It is us who add the good and evil to karma to change it into what we want it to be.
