Five Things I Wish God Had Told Us Long Ago

I started pestering my parents when I was just a kid with questions about why god as our heavenly father would withhold life-saving information from his creation. Needless to say, they never had an answer that satisfied me even back then. Those questions linger, popping up from time to time in adult conversations that I have with friends. To this day, no good answers have been provided. So, I wrote an article for Debunking Christianity where I listed five things that I wish god had told his children ages ago. Click the link to read the article and feel free to list a few major godly oversights that you think should be added to the list.

Gary S. Thank you for the lead to John Loftus' Blog.

"In this day and age, it's painfully obvious that there is so little wisdom to be found in the Bible as to make the book irrelevant."

~ John Loftus, John W. Loftus's Blog, January 5, 2018.

If god existed he/she/it would provide a roadmap for liking oneself and respect for others, even if they appear different.

Humans need an instinct for empathy for sentient beings that suffer.

Humankind cries out for community while we fail to have the skills of communication, negotiation, compromise, problem-solving, conflict management, management of anger and stress. These learned behaviors can be taught from birth and practiced until death.

BTW, the link at the bottom of your post appears to be broken.  This link should work.

One thing?  How about the issue of RACE and what a colossal human construct it is.  What people apparently didn't know when the bible was written is that the whole skin color thing was SUPERFICIAL, that despite those appearances, we are ONE RACE, being the human race.

I say this because race and cultural background has been used as an us-vs-them tool to divide people.  The bible does this specifically in at least two ways:

  • Sanctioning the practice of slavery, as documented in Leviticus 25 and Exodus 21.
  • The rampant genocide of any tribes which were not the Israelites:
    • Amarites
    • Moabites
    • Amalekites
    • Kenites

And too many others.  One would expect a unary god to be concerned with his entire creation equally, rather than playing favorites, yet Yahweh does nothing BUT play favorites, starting with the debacle between Cain and Abel.

In the light of the above, there is an additional adjective which I would append to Richard Dawkins' famous sentence from Chapter Two of The God Delusion: DIVISIVE.

The devil will appear incarnate as an atheist seducing believers with appeals to reason.  Reason is not only my whore but it is beyond the capacity of my children.  So i say unto thee sit back, open wide, your god has a load for you to ingest.

I am still a big fan of the writings that Loftus has on that blog of his.
