I sometimes listen to religious right radio shows (it's a guilty pleasure, plus I think it's a good idea to know what the other side is saying) and I heard something very strange the other day. On one of the shows, the host was asserting that god WAS in the US Constitution. Well, having read the document in question many times, I was very sure that god was not mentioned. The host then said that when the Founders put "in the Year of our Lord" in the date section, this was appealing to the authority of god!

This was (and still is) a time reference, NOT a religious reference! Many still use AD (short for Anno Domani which is latin for the year of our lord) although some use CE (Common Era).

So, any comments on 'god' in the US Constitution?

Actually Larry, the 7/4 is celebrated because that is the day that the US Congress finalized the document. The independence measure was voted on 7/2 but then the various factions among the representatives to the Continental Congress formalized the document on the 4th. What's cute about that?

Too bad it wasn't ratified a 25th of December, so Santa could claim a joint right to it.
