Sick and tired of god-stuff - an open letter to theists

First of all, I am an atheist. Most likely one of the most adamant atheists you’ll ever meet. Let’s talk about why, and what it is that’s got me completely fed up with a good number of believers of almost any stripe.

There is only one simple reason that I am atheist. There is ample evidence that the concept of gods is entirely man made, and additionally, made from ignorance. Most theists have difficulty with this, yet as a friend of mine says, we atheists simply believe in ONE LESS god than you Christians (or Jews, or Moslems, etc) do. I have yet to find a Christian who has difficulty agreeing with me that Zeus or Poseidon ever existed… yet they cling to the ridiculous short-circuited rationalization that THEIR god DOES exist.

“But the Bible says…" Hey. I don’t believe in gods so obviously I don’t believe in god-authored books, and therefore I have no interest whatsoever in arguing your quotations with you.

“How can you be moral and ethical without religion to guide you?” Perhaps theists consider themselves too dimwitted to sort out right from wrong, but I don’t feel that we humans really have that problem. More seriously, ethics and morals are very easily proven to be man-made - societally driven, in fact. That’s precisely why ethics and morals differ between cultures and groups. We can see, as communications become more global, that morals are becoming more similar around the world.

I'm sorry, I missed the 'many others' ... hasn't been here!

First - although examiners do get paid, we get so little that it's almost a moot point. Which is why, I suppose, we try and get page hits ... at less than a penny a hit, believe me, I can't even buy myself and my husband dinner once a month. But you're right, it still does motivate me somewhat to bring traffic there.

That said, I don't post my articles anywhere but sites I personally attend and find interesting. That's the case here. I also permit anyone to see it and anyone to comment. Here. I'm a little unclear how posting on my page or my blog is spamming, though. Can you explain how that could be? (I am not being a wiseass - I would like to understand that!) I can understand how it could be were I constantly posting in dedicated groups without permission. I'm not.

In most cases, I've also asked, when I make my first post, if the people there mind me posting my articles. I honestly don't remember for sure if I did so here. But I've always been told I'm welcome.

I hate spam, and I hate people who are arrogant jerkoffs, and I don't want to behave that way. I'm just not clear how I'm doing that here.

I don't mind posting the entire article here, btw. I'm just unlear on why I must do so.

I've reviewed the site rules, and also discovered that Ryan, you're not staff, and I think your comment was intended to appear as if you were. I see you also promised not too long ago to stop telling other AtNex members how to post. Further, I see on your page that you, too, have also posted links to information off site.

So, although it's not my desire to upset anyone here, I think that unless I hear directly from administrators that my understanding of the rules is incorrect, we'll have to agree to disagree on this. I always permit responses right here as well as on the Examiner site, so that it is NOT an imposition on anyone. If other readers want to comment on this, I welcome their input and will certainly remain openminded about the issue.

I am legally entitled to do so as an examiner, so as long as that would be okay, I'd love to do that... I value the AtNex comments more than the general public...

Comment by ryan cameron on May 12, 2010 at 7:56am: I appreciate your sentiments, but I'd rather not see external blog sites promoted here, if you want to promote your business or blog, why not buy an ad on A/N? Pushing our traffic to your site seems disingenuous, and only serves to make A/N a compendium of links instead of a community. It borders on spam, I think, and takes advantage of those of us who contribute to A/N regularly.

All I ask is that you give me the same respect you want me to give you...
I get replies which only 'hear' the first part - that I don't believe in gods or holy books. They completely miss points two and three. It'll be interesting to see what happens on Examiner.
