Well, this is my first blog post to this particular site.
I have a somewhat minor journal thingy at LiveJournal, but a more official blog on blogger. Might as well add this one to the list.
I don't know what else to say in this that you can't already read in my "About Me" thing on my homepage here.
I'm a 21-year old college student who is just now entering his "rebellious teen" stage, but my atheism is separate from that. The whole godlessness thing was a well-informed decision based on years of observation and contemplation.
Not that many people know about my position, not even my family. I don't know if I'll ever get around to telling them, and I really don't know if it would be a good thing to tell them.
I guess at times I feel a bit intimidated about my beliefs (or lack thereof), and how there are so many more people who DO believe in God, or A god, and how the most vocal ones about it are also the ones who enjoy calling-out and harassing non-believers. I don't want to become yet another notch on some Bible-thumper's belt who just happened to catch me and chastise me.
There are times though, when I just want to stand in a crowded room and yell at the top of my lungs, express my feelings and beliefs and reasons for choosing what I do. I'm building up knowledge and trying my best to remember all the facts I need to defend myself, because I want to be able to stand up to anyone who tries to attack my beliefs WITHOUT resorting to violence, or cowering because of being overwhelmed. It's a lot of work, but I want to stand up for my convictions and not let anyone tell me what to believe.
Aside from this, I'm a relatively normalish person. I love music. Tom Waits, Nine Inch Nails, Queen, Foo Fighters, techno, Industrial, and EBM for sure. I also enjoy oldies, swing, jazz, folk, blues, bluegrass, Irish folk songs, and beach music. In short, I enjoy good music.
I love movies, though I'm saddened by the state of the movie industry these days. It's all about visual appeal, with no substance. I say either go all CG, like with Pixar's work, or as little CG as possible. The last hope I have for such a movie is this upcoming Batman movie, which uses minimal CG and a good bit of stock footage, so it's bound to be amazing. I also love old, bad, cheesy movies because, well, sometimes bad is good. One of my favorite all-time movies has got to be Manos: The Hands of Fate. If you haven't seen it, find it online and watch it. Especially watch it if you can find the viewing by the Mystery Science Theater 3000 gang.
I met this girl last month, near the beginning of June. Her name's Kelly, and I think she's "the one". We clicked the instant we met, and we both felt this strong charge. We actually share a lot in common, to the point where we've expressed the exact same THOUGHTS at the same time. A little creepy, but I think that's the sign of a really good pairing. She's a real treat, though. Bubbly, laughs at all my jokes (good and lame alike), holds on to me when she wants to, and has beautiful, adoring eyes. I've never felt such a strong pull towards anyone before. I'm really hoping things can work out between us.
Well, I don't really have anything else to give you all at the moment. If anything else comes up, I'll be sure to post again, and I hope to meet some of you and make some good friends here. Cheers.
