Let's keep going with this idea of "religious tolerance," it seems to work so well.  How many family members and friends will religious moderates and apologists have to lose before they admit there's a problem?  4,000?  Obviously not.  They'll be busy scolding outspoken atheists while the very people they defend continue to destroy this planet.

IMHO the problem with outspoken atheists is primarily that its hard to distinguish friend from foe.

This may not be important if there is only one culture, however mix in different cultures and races and then the element of friend and foe become important. Does the person hate the other person or the belief? I would not want to be aligned with racists and bigots and so I tread with caution around criticism of religions. Still something needs to be done, and therefore outspoken atheists are needed if anything should be encouraged, but for the right reasons.
