Call to Action: Them This Guy What You Think.

We, as atheists, are opinionated, if nothing else. Here's a guy who thinks we should just sit down and shut up when it comes to the DNC's decision to hold an interfaith service for the upcoming convention. If we don't hold our tongues and sit on our hands, we are 'militant.'

What do you have to do? Just swing on by this blog post, read it, and then tell him--after you've finished losing your mind and have properly composed yourself, and can reply in a somewhat reasonable manner (I myself couldn't suppress the sarcasm, sorry...)--what you think of the matter. Personally, I don't like to be told to shut up. I definitely don't like to be told to suck it up and take the general abuse and/or neglect we godless folks get in this country. I don't expect you do either. So, please, go and make your voice heard.

And, for flip's sake, go join the Atheist Defense Network here on A/N, and do some clicking, commenting, letter writing, whatever you have to do. We need voices, we need numbers, we need to be heard.

Mmmmmm, I love the smell of polarized social politics in the morning!

Here's my two cents, as presented:

Militant positions? If rifles and uniforms are being passed out someone really should have let me know!

The 'militant atheist' generalization is idiotic, just about as idiotic as the 'atheists are immoral' argument. I don't see any godless folks terrorizing coffee shops, abortion clinics or biology labs...

People are speaking their minds and standing up for convictions, that's hardly a militant act.

As I see it, inviting atheists to a religious service is like inviting your vegetarian neighbor over for a pig roast. Nice gesture and all yet totally hollow.

I do agree that letter writing and phone calls won't get the event canceled (if it did, just imagine how much more 'militant' we'd be portrayed) but I fail to see why we should just fall in line and not speak up if that's what we believe is the right thing to do.

I'd rather be accused of being a militant, hateful godless jerk then toss my convictions in the trash.
