I'm a fiction writer and I attack god and religion in my novels. That's not the main thrust of my sci-fi and horror novels, but it's a constant in all my books (3 1/2 so far). I'm still unpublished but hope that will change this year. So, here is my question.

I wrote a sci-fi novel that takes place about 50 years in the future. One of the characters in the book is the pope of that era. What name should I use for him? Ideally, it would be a name that religious folks see as possible for a pope, while also having a snarky connotation. The last is optional but it would be nice. Any thoughts? I'm unschooled in these matters.

He is a very funny pope. I think some folks here would enjoy him. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

Hey, I am also an aspiring writer, and am quite heavy into science, so if you need any editing or opinions, send me your stuff

Pope Darky Killer the Baby Rapist

That one is becoming more and more appropriate all the time, don't you think

You know what?  This got me writing again.  After a two year hiatus, I finally began penning the ending....

I have but only in online forums as a sort of round robin exercise. The group got smaller and smaller, we got up to the third installment when there was about 4 of us involved but despite scripting an ending it never got finished that was years ago.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 Intro

Part 3  (Unfinished)

Though 1 is for die-hard purists only becuase you've got about 30+ people taking part so manic and disorganised is only the half of it, that it manages to make anything like coherent sense is amazing.  We hit our stride in the later half of 2 and 3 was good fun as we developed the characters and amazingly worked up to an actual plot arc!

Naming characters was always the fun part, we had a effete neurosurgeon named after two cricket grounds Headingley Edgbaston, and a past-his-prime spook Sean Daltmooreby (a contraction of every bond actor we could think of.)  Also the Cryogenically persevered head of Boutros Boutros Ghali in a jar.

Thomas, Pope Felix has a fun ring to it and luckily, it also sounds foolish. Thanks, all. And Richard, do you write fiction? If you don't, I suspect you would enjoy it. I find it a most excellent way to spend my days.  Again, thanks to everyone for the responses.

Necessary for revenue. The accountants at the Vatican Bank had been reviewing the books and presented The Magisterium with grim news. the cost of all those out of court settlements had taken their toll on the liquidity of assets.

He'd wanted to go with "Peter" and initiate a ministry of queit and humble reflection but was overruled in cloister by a syndicate of Inquisitors and Cardinals who weren't having any truck with such naive foolishness and had stressed the returns that could be made through marketing and sponsorship opportunities.

And so it was that Summer that the Vatican gift shops on the tourist trail, did a roaring sale in bags of  ineffectually florally scented ('sainted') wood shavings .

Felix is latin for 'lucky' - perhaps this ironic. An in-joke amongst the cardinals

How about Pope Felix VI. That would be a "pope-ular" name. LOL Get it? "pope-ular"?

Shannon, I don't think those are the popey names I've been looking for but I do appreciate the attitude! And Richard, I love Dave. That and your descriptions made me laugh. I thought I made my pope hapless, but I suspect you'd outdo me at that. Still, I'm afraid I won't use that one either. Pope guys always sound so popey. That's what I need. Thanks to both of you for your replies.
