Well, time for another post. I am enjoying these. Alas, I have been having stuck on my mind a rather difficult situation in my head. I have mentioned before that my immediate family is almost completely atheistic. Which I find wonderful. In fact when I told my sister that I have become a bit more "militant" in my framework she called me her hero. I think she expects me to start a crusade, which maybe I will if I end up more like Hitchens, without the smoking and cancer, I truly hope he gets better. Show them what science can do! Alas, with his cancer, not such good chances. But, I have hope.
Anyway, the only person in my immediate family that I tend to think has any real Christian beliefs would be my mother, however she isn't even a Sunday Christian, more of a.... I don't know. But, it is her side of the family that has actually brought me to church and Christian bible camps. That is what happens when I get left at with them during summer vacations. Alas, and it is them that I have to see tomorrow.
You see, I am not one for visiting family often. I enjoy traveling, but do so sparingly. However, last year I moved within a short bus ride of my mom's family (I call 2 hours short). And I was invited to my aunt's 50th birthday. She likes me, I tolerate her, but she is a different story if you want to hear. Alas, my opinion of partaking in lip service to religion has changed recently, if you see my other post, and I have become much more vocal in my opinions. I have no intention of being rude, but I am highly confident that I have never mentioned my religious opinion. I have found that people tend to accept omission as agreement and conformity. It may be that my brother's more vocal tendencies may have hinted to the fact that the entire side of the family tree is aware that god and Santa are both equally likely. Then again, Santa was based, very very loosely, on someone who possibly existed. I haven't checked the historical accuracy of St. Nicolas, if anyone knows I am rather curious.
So ya, I am at a loss as to what to expect will happen tomorrow.
On the plus side I have been doing some work creating a cute Secular Humanist t-shirt I plan to make for myself. But, that is for my own personal amusement.
