As a Canadian stand with Americans that want to show their country and the world that there are a lot of moral, friendly people who do not accept religion and believe that good government can come from non religious people as well as religious people.

Help form a political constituency - because standing alone we get forced to accept backwards encroachments in education and social policy.

Make a principled stand and put my money where my mouth is.  My wife is very religious (we get along fine) and faithfully attends church and attends religious conferences.

I appreciate her commitment to her ideals.  Why don't I show some commitment to mine in a meaningful way.

I spend several hundred dollars going there alone and wander around the periphery of a few people who don't know me and don't want to know me.

News stations like Fox news reports on the anemic turnout of a few despicable atheists - but report rapes are up in Washington DC that week (didn't someone say we are holding the same morality rating as those criminals?)

News stations like Fox News reports on a huge dangerous crowd of hostile atheists congregating in one place and warn everyone - that is why the U.S. needs a president like Rick Santorum.

I am agonizing over this opportunity! Oh what should I do?

I actually do not really watch Fox news except for the more outrageous clips played on the more liberal talk shows.  I did just recently click on a Fox Richard Dawkins/Bill O'Reily video and saw Bill playing to a biased audience and thinking he was scoring real points on Richard.  He wasn't even close - but I can see the biased audience getting a different message.

Sun news North is an American export I thought would never reach us here in Canada.  Hopefully it is not a precursor to other exports like debates about Creationism in schools etc.

I'm a Canadian and I am going! (my profile is not true here because I live in a small redneck town in Ontario). There will be lots of us down there. Get involved and participate in the party. It is our party - enjoy being with like minds. You're a teacher/prof, you should be able to start a conversation with strangers that feel exactly like you do. I find it hard too but they are all my friends in the best club in the world - REALITY. Now get down there and have some fun. Also go to the American Atheist National Convention and see some great people talk and meet some more in a less rushed environment.

Fox news is the wrong station to be watching unless you like laughing. Are you also watching Fox News North too - Sun News. That is a joke of a news station!

I personally am dying to go but I can see the fear of the cons holding you back. When I try to weigh them in my mind I try to picture the satisfaction that is possible and it outweighs the bad immensely, but thats just my perspective. I also want to say that I think it is great that you as a Canadian are showing your support at this event. Many people from other countries dont see the importance of this event in the U.S. The United States is still struggling to maintain a purely Secular government whereas most other developed countries do not have that problem. I believe that if we can get religion out of government we can stop impeding the processes that make out country great
