I was going through the Internet this morning, and I came across this news article on Yahoo!. The first paragraph caught my attention...
Convict In Shamed Girl's Rape
"The 15-year-old New Hampshire girl was pregnant, scared and humiliated when she was made to stand before her Baptist church congregation 14 years ago and apologize for her immorality."
The poor girl was raped against her will, got pregnant, and was forced to stand in front of her congregation and APOLOGIZE? What exactly is she apologizing for? Do religious people believe that being raped was God's punishment for a sin Tina committed and that is why she is apologizing? None of this article made any sense to me, because where I come from, being raped is a HORRIBLE, PAINFUL, and EMBARRASSING event to have happen in your life. A church should be there for comfort, not to add to the fire.

A church should do that, yes, but in the case of Baptist churches...what you just saw was the M.O.
When my mother became pregnant with me at age 14, they demanded that my mother repent in front of the church so that she may be "cleansed". She flatly refused. My "father" on the other hand passed the buck...
Heck, it happens in charismatic circles too. I don't want to get too much into it because your head would spin.
