I think the tv show Nova Science Now (by Degrasse Tyson) is closest to what Nye had in regards to teaching children/families science easily. There isn't a lot on tv to teach science, which sucks. :/

Bill Nye carried the banner previously held by Don Herbert, a.k.a. "Mr. Wizard," whose science shows on Saturday morning in the 1950's were my window in on that amazing and multi-varied world.

Now granted, I'm not the TV watcher I used to be, and it may be that shows like Mythbusters are filling in to some degree, but I really haven't seen the equivalent of Bill Nye, the Science Guy or Mr. Wizard in quite a while, and by that I mean shows that did basic, simple science that a kid could reproduce at home.  Frankly, I think that's sad.
